Day 1: Arrive Managua — Transfer to Granada
Welcome to Nicaragua! Airport pickup and transfer to Granada, the oldest European city in the Americas (1524). Evening horse-drawn carriage ride through colonial streets. Welcome dinner at a restaurant on Parque Central. Overnight in Granada.
Day 2: Granada & Las Isletas
Morning walking tour of Granada: the neoclassical Cathedral, San Francisco Convent with its pre-Columbian statues, and colorful Calle La Calzada. Afternoon boat tour through Las Isletas — 365 volcanic islets on Lake Nicaragua formed by the Mombacho Volcano eruption. Spot howler monkeys and tropical birds. Overnight in Granada.
Day 3: Masaya Volcano — The Gates of Hell
Morning visit to Masaya Volcano National Park, one of the few places on Earth where you can peer directly into a glowing lava lake. Visit the visitor center and walk to the crater’s edge. Continue to Catarina viewpoint overlooking Laguna de Apoyo. Afternoon swim in the volcanic crater lagoon — crystal-clear warm waters. Overnight in Granada.
Day 4: Ometepe Island — Twin Volcanoes
Ferry across Lake Nicaragua to Ometepe Island, formed by two volcanoes rising from the world’s 19th largest lake. Visit Ojo de Agua, a natural spring-fed pool surrounded by tropical gardens. Afternoon hike on Volcan Maderas through cloud forest to see petroglyphs. Overnight on Ometepe.
Day 5: Ometepe — Concepcion Volcano & Charco Verde
Morning hike or horseback ride on the slopes of Volcan Concepcion (1,610m, optional summit attempt for fit hikers). Visit Charco Verde Nature Reserve for birdwatching — kingfishers, trogons, and parrots. Afternoon ferry back to the mainland. Overnight in San Juan del Sur.
