Day 1: Arrive Guatemala City — Antigua
Welcome to Guatemala! Transfer to Antigua. Evening orientation walk and welcome dinner. Overnight in Antigua.
Day 2: Antigua & Coffee Culture
Guided walking tour of colonial Antigua. Afternoon coffee tour: from plant to cup on a working finca. Learn why Guatemalan coffee is consistently rated among the world’s top 10. Overnight in Antigua.
Day 3: Pacaya Volcano
Hike up Pacaya with its steaming vents and lava fields. Afternoon free to explore Antigua’s artisan chocolate shops and rooftops. Overnight in Antigua.
Day 4: Chichicastenango & Lake Atitlan
Early start for Chichicastenango’s legendary market (Thursday/Sunday schedule). Witness Mayan rituals at Santo Tomas Church. Afternoon arrival at Lake Atitlan. Overnight in Panajachel.
Day 5: Lake Atitlan Village Immersion
Full-day boat tour visiting San Juan La Laguna (textiles, naif art), San Pedro La Laguna (backpacker hub with volcano views), and Santiago Atitlan (Maximon). Overnight at Lake Atitlan.
Day 6: Quetzal Biotope & Coban
Journey north into the cloud forest. Visit the Quetzal Biotope — a protected reserve for Guatemala’s national bird, the resplendent quetzal. Walk the moss-draped trails with a naturalist guide. Overnight in Coban.
Day 7: Semuc Champey — Natural Wonder
One of Guatemala’s most spectacular sights: Semuc Champey, a series of turquoise limestone pools cascading down a natural 300m bridge over the Cahabon River. Swim in crystal-clear pools, explore the K’an Ba caves by candlelight, and tube down the river. Overnight near Semuc Champey.
Day 8: Transfer to Flores
Scenic drive through the Guatemalan lowlands to Flores on Lake Peten Itza. Afternoon free for swimming, kayaking on the lake, or exploring the colorful island town. Overnight in Flores.
Day 9: Yaxha — Lesser-Known Mayan Gem
Visit Yaxha, Guatemala’s third-largest Mayan site. Climb Temple 216 for sweeping views across the Yaxha Lagoon. Much less crowded than Tikal, Yaxha offers a more intimate jungle ruin experience. Sunset at the top of the main temple. Overnight in Flores.
Day 10: Tikal — The Grand Finale
Full day at Tikal, the crown jewel of Mayan civilization. Visit Temple I (Great Jaguar), Temple II (Masks), the Great Plaza, the Acropolis, and Temple IV for the iconic aerial view. Nature walk to spot spider monkeys, toucans, and coatis. Farewell dinner. Overnight in Flores.
Day 11: Depart Guatemala
Flight to Guatemala City for international departure. You have experienced Guatemala from Pacific volcanoes to Caribbean jungle!
