Day 1-2: Lisbon — City of Seven Hills
- Day 1: Arrive Lisbon. Afternoon orientation: Praça do Comércio (grand waterfront plaza), climb to Alfama (the oldest district, a maze of narrow streets and staircases that survived the 1755 earthquake because of its bedrock foundation — most of Lisbon was destroyed, 60,000-100,000 died, in one of the deadliest earthquakes in history). Ride the iconic Tram 28 through Lisbon’s hills. Evening fado show in Alfama — Portugal’s soulful “urban blues,” born in these very streets, sung with saudade (a uniquely Portuguese word: the melancholic longing for something absent, untranslatable)
- Day 2: Belém — Jerónimos Monastery (Manueline Gothic masterpiece, UNESCO World Heritage, Vasco da Gama’s tomb), Belém Tower (iconic fortress on the Tagus), Monument to the Discoveries. Pasteis de Belém — the original custard tarts from 1837, secret recipe unchanged, best eaten warm with cinnamon. Afternoon at the Oceanário de Lisboa — Europe’s largest indoor aquarium. Evening in Bairro Alto for Portuguese wine and petiscos (Portuguese tapas)

Day 3: Porto — City of Bridges & Port Wine
- Morning train to Porto (3h). Porto is built on granite cliffs above the Douro River, connected by six bridges — including the double-deck Dom Luís I Bridge (1886) designed by a disciple of Gustave Eiffel. The city is a UNESCO World Heritage site with a gritty, authentic charm
- Afternoon: Visit São Bento Railway Station — the entrance hall is covered in 20,000 azulejo (blue-and-white ceramic tiles) depicting Portuguese history — one of the most beautiful train stations in the world. Explore the Ribeira district along the Douro, cross the bridge to Vila Nova de Gaia for Port Wine Cellar Tour & Tasting — learn about the fortification process, the aging in oak barrels, and the different styles (Ruby, Tawny, Vintage, LBV). Taste white port (chilled, with tonic water — Portugal’s contribution to aperitifs) and aged tawny port with chocolate pairing
- Evening: Francesinha — Porto’s monstrously delicious sandwich: layers of ham, linguiça, steak, and sausage between thick bread, covered in melted cheese, topped with a fried egg, drowning in spicy tomato-beer sauce, served with fries. It’s the ultimate comfort food. Pair with Super Bock beer

Day 4: Douro Valley & Journey to Madrid
- Morning Douro Valley Wine Tour — the Douro is the oldest demarcated wine region in the world (1756), a UNESCO World Heritage landscape of terraced vineyards carved into schist slopes overlooking the Douro River. Visit a traditional quinta (wine estate) for a tour of the vineyards and a tasting of Douro DOC table wines — the same region that produces Port also makes extraordinary still reds from Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, and Touriga Franca grapes. - Afternoon flight Porto→Madrid (1h) or overnight train (Lusitania Comboio Hotel). Arrive Madrid for dinner

Day 5: Madrid Highlights
- Morning at the Prado Museum — Las Meninas, The Third of May, Garden of Earthly Delights. Afternoon Royal Palace. Evening tapas tour through La Latina — gambas al ajillo, patatas bravas, and tinto de verano

Day 6-7: Córdoba & Seville
- Day 6: AVE to Córdoba. La Mezquita, Jewish Quarter, Calleja de las Flores. Continue to Seville. Evening Plaza de España
- Day 7: Seville — Real Alcázar (Mudéjar palace), Cathedral & Giralda (Columbus tomb), Santa Cruz. Evening authentic flamenco in Triana

Day 8: Granada — The Alhambra
