Itinerary Highlights
Day 1: Caracas to Santa Elena de Uairén
Arrive Caracas, then fly to Puerto Ordaz and drive to Santa Elena de Uairén, the gateway to Canaima National Park at the Brazil-Venezuela border. Briefing with your Pemón guide team. Overnight in Santa Elena.
Day 2: Gran Sabana & Paraitepui
Drive through the Gran Sabana, a vast highland plateau of savanna dotted with tepuis. Stop at the “Jaspe” waterfall (Falls of Jasper), where the river flows over a solid bed of red jasper — a semiprecious gemstone. Trek begins from Paraitepui, the Pemón village that marks the start of the Roraima trail. Overnight at first camp.
Day 3: Roraima — The Ascent Begins
Full day trekking through savanna and cloud forest toward the base of Mount Roraima. The tepui looms increasingly larger — a 400m sheer cliff rising from the jungle. Camp at the base of “The Ramp,” the only accessible route to the summit. Overnight at base camp.
Day 4: Summit Day — On Top of the Lost World
The most challenging and rewarding day: ascend “The Ramp” to the summit of Mount Roraima (2,810m). The 2-3 hour climb takes you from jungle to an alien world — a vast, barren plateau of black rock sculpted into impossible formations by millions of years of wind and rain. The summit of Roraima covers 31 km² and is shared between Venezuela (85%), Brazil (10%), and Guyana (5%). Explore the “Jacuzzis” — crystal-clear rock pools of icy water in the middle of the plateau. Visit the “Valley of the Crystals,” where quartz formations glitter in the sunlight. Overnight at summit camp.
Day 5: Roraima Summit Exploration
Full day on the summit. Explore the bizarre landscape: “The Maze” of rock formations, carnivorous plants (Heliamphora and Drosera found nowhere else on Earth), endemic black frogs (Oreophrynella quelchii) that can’t jump — they tuck and roll to escape predators, the “Triple Point” where three countries meet, and extraordinary rock formations that look like they belong on another planet. Sunset from the edge of the tepui — watching clouds flow over the cliff like a waterfall. Overnight at summit camp.
Day 6: Descent & Return Trek
Dawn at the summit edge, then descent to base camp. Afternoon trek back through the savanna. Overnight at camp.
Day 7: Santa Elena & Return
Final trek to Paraitepui. Drive back to Santa Elena for a well-deserved hot shower and celebration dinner. Overnight in Santa Elena.
Day 8: Flight to Caracas & Depart
Drive to Puerto Ordaz, fly to Caracas, connect to international flight.
