Day 1: Arrive Narsarsuaq — Into the Fjordlands
Fly into Narsarsuaq, a former US WWII airbase turned gateway to South Greenland’s majestic fjordlands. Transfer to your accommodation in this remote settlement surrounded by towering peaks. Evening briefing and welcome dinner with views over Tunulliarfik Fjord. Overnight in Narsarsuaq.
Day 2: Qassiarsuk — Erik the Red’s Settlement
Boat journey across the fjord to Qassiarsuk, the settlement founded by Erik the Red in 985 AD — the first Norse settlement in Greenland. Visit the reconstructions of Thjodhildur’s Church (the first church in the Americas) and Erik the Red’s longhouse. Meet modern Inuit sheep farmers whose ancestors have lived here for centuries. Hike to panoramic viewpoints. Overnight in Narsarsuaq.
Day 3: Qooroq Ice Fjord — Glacier Front
Zodiac boat excursion into the Qooroq Ice Fjord, one of South Greenland’s most spectacular waterways. Navigate among icebergs of every shape and size — cobalt blue, turquoise, and brilliant white — calved from the Qooroq Glacier. The boat gets as close as safely possible to the 5km-wide glacier front, where you’ll witness and hear ice crashing into the sea. This is the sound of a changing planet. Overnight in Narsarsuaq.
Day 4: Igaliku — Greenland’s Most Beautiful Village
Boat to Igaliku, often called Greenland’s most beautiful settlement — a tiny village of colorful houses set on a peninsula between two fjords with UNESCO-listed Norse ruins. Hike to the Norse bishops’ cathedral ruins at Garðar, once the religious center of Norse Greenland. Meet local families and learn about modern Greenlandic life in one of the world’s most remote communities. Overnight in Igaliku guesthouse.
Day 5: Glacier Hiking & Norse Ruins
Morning hike to a nearby glacier for a guided glacier walk — crampons on, walking on ice that has been forming for thousands of years. Afternoon visit to the Brattahlíð reconstructed site. Farewell dinner featuring Greenlandic specialties: musk ox, Arctic char, and crowberries. Overnight in Narsarsuaq.
Day 6: Depart Narsarsuaq
Morning at leisure. Transfer to Narsarsuaq Airport. As you fly out, watch the ice sheet stretch to the horizon — a perspective that stays with you forever.
