Day 1: Arrive Managua
Airport transfer to hotel. Evening walking tour of Managua’s historic center: Old Santiago Cathedral and the National Palace. Welcome dinner. Overnight in Managua.
Day 2: Leon — Revolutionary City
Transfer to Leon, Nicaragua’s intellectual and revolutionary capital. Visit the UNESCO-listed Cathedral of Leon — the largest in Central America, climb to the rooftop for views of the Maribios volcano chain. Explore the Ortiz-Gurdian Foundation Art Museum. Overnight in Leon.
Day 3: Cerro Negro Volcano Boarding
One of the world’s most unique adventures: volcano boarding down Cerro Negro (728m). Hike up this active black volcano carrying your board, then surf down its 41-degree ash slope at speeds up to 90km/h! Afternoon relaxation at the Pacific beach of Las Penitas. Overnight in Leon.
Day 4: San Jacinto Hot Springs & Telica Volcano
Visit San Jacinto boiling mud pools (Hervideros de San Jacinto) — bubbling geothermal fields at the foot of Telica Volcano. Afternoon hike to Telica Volcano’s crater rim for sunset views. Camp overnight near Telica for unforgettable stargazing.
Day 5-6: Matagalpa — Coffee Highlands
Journey into the northern highlands. Two days exploring Matagalpa’s cloud forests and coffee country. Visit Selva Negra, a German-founded coffee estate with pristine cloud forest trails. Coffee cupping session with a Q-grader. Overnight in Matagalpa.
Day 7-8: Granada & Las Isletas
Two days in Granada: colonial architecture, Las Isletas boat tour, Masaya Volcano lava lake at night, Laguna de Apoyo swimming. Cooking class making vigoron and nacatamales. Overnight in Granada.
Day 9-10: Ometepe Island
Two days on mythical Ometepe. Hike Volcan Maderas, visit Ojo de Agua, explore petroglyph sites. Horseback riding along the shore. Overnight on Ometepe.
Day 11-12: San Juan del Sur & Pacific Coast
Two days on Nicaragua’s Pacific Riviera. Surf lessons, beach hopping, and sunset cruises. Visit La Flor Wildlife Refuge (seasonal sea turtle nesting). Overnight in San Juan del Sur.
Day 13: Depart Nicaragua
Morning beach walk. Transfer to Managua Airport.
