Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Mahébourg — Arrival in the Southeast
Arrive and transfer to Mahébourg, Mauritius’ historic first capital on the southeast coast. Check into Radisson Blu Poste La Fayette. Afternoon orientation walk through this charming town: the Naval Museum, the waterfront with views of Lion Mountain, and the lively Monday market (if timing matches). Welcome dinner at the hotel with panoramic lagoon views.
Day 2: Blue Bay Marine Park — Snorkeling Paradise
Morning glass-bottom boat trip in Blue Bay Marine Park, one of Mauritius’ best-preserved coral reefs. Snorkel among 38 coral species and 72 fish species in crystal-clear water. Afternoon at leisure to explore Mahébourg — the biscuit factory (since 1870), the historical naval museum, and waterfront cafés. Sunset over the bay.
Day 3: Grand River South East & Île aux Cerfs
Full day boat excursion. Speedboat up the Grand River South East to the waterfall, then onward to Île aux Cerfs. Spend the day on this iconic island — swim, sunbathe, and enjoy water sports. Beach barbecue lunch. Return to the mainland via the east coast with stops at Belle Mare and Palmar beaches.
Day 4: Curepipe & Central Plateau
Drive to the central plateau. Visit Trou aux Cerfs volcanic crater. Explore the colonial town of Curepipe with its charming architecture. Continue to the Bois Chéri tea plantation for a tea tasting with breathtaking views. Afternoon visit to Grand Bassin (Ganga Talao), the sacred Hindu lake. See the giant Shiva statue and Hanuman temple.
Day 5: Black River Gorges & Chamarel
Full day exploring the southwest. Hike in Black River Gorges National Park searching for the Mauritius kestrel and echo parakeet. Visit Chamarel’s Seven Colored Earth and waterfall. Tour the Rhumerie de Chamarel for an insight into Mauritius’ rum-making tradition. Lunch at a hillside restaurant with views over the dramatic west coast. Continue to Le Morne for sunset views of the UNESCO-listed mountain.
Day 6: Port Louis — The Capital in Depth
Full day in Port Louis. Morning at the Central Market and Chinatown. Visit Aapravasi Ghat (UNESCO World Heritage), the immigration depot that shaped modern Mauritius. Afternoon at Caudan Waterfront: the Blue Penny Museum, shopping, and lunch. Visit the Jummah Mosque and the St. Louis Cathedral — symbols of the island’s religious harmony. Evening return to the hotel.
Day 7: Cap Malheureux & Northern Beaches
Drive to the northernmost tip of the island. Visit Cap Malheureux and its iconic red-roofed Notre Dame Auxiliatrice church, framed by Coin de Mire island. Continue to the northern beaches: Grand Baie, Pereybère, Mont Choisy, and Trou aux Biches — each with a different character. Afternoon at leisure on your favorite beach.
Day 8: La Vanille Nature Reserve & South Coast
Visit La Vanille Nature Reserve to see giant Aldabra tortoises (some over 100 years old), Nile crocodiles, and an insectarium. Continue to Gris Gris, the dramatic southern cliffs where the powerful Indian Ocean crashes against the volcanic coastline. Visit the Rochester Falls, a unique lava rock waterfall. Afternoon exploring the local village of Souillac and its charming Telfair Garden.
Day 9: Leisure & Farewell Sega
Final full day at leisure. Relax at the resort pool and beach. Optional: last-minute souvenir shopping, catamaran trip, or spa treatment. Evening farewell celebration: traditional Sega dance performance and Creole buffet dinner on the beach under the stars. Sega — recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage — is the rhythmic music and dance born from the island’s slave history.
Day 10: Departure
Morning at leisure. Transfer to the airport for departure. You leave having explored every corner of Mauritius — from the northern beaches to the wild south, from volcanic craters to sacred lakes, from bustling Port Louis to the tranquil tea plantations. The island’s warmth stays with you long after you’ve left.
