Itinerary Highlights
Day 1: Arrive San Pedro Sula — Copán
Airport pick-up. Scenic drive through the Honduran highlands to Copán Ruinas. Evening exploration of this enchanting mountain town with its cobblestone streets. Overnight in Copán.
Days 2-3: Copán Archaeological Park
Two days at Copán (UNESCO World Heritage). Day 1: the main archaeological zone — the Great Plaza with its portrait stelae, the Hieroglyphic Stairway (the longest Mayan text ever discovered, telling the dynasty’s history from founder Yax K’uk’ Mo’ to the 16th ruler), the Ball Court, and the Acropolis. The sculpture museum houses the full-scale replica of the Rosalila Temple found intact beneath later construction. Day 2: Las Sepulturas residential compound and the Macaw Mountain Bird Park. Evening: Copán’s hot springs. Overnight in Copán.
Day 4: Copán — San Pedro Sula — Fly to Roatán
Drive back to San Pedro Sula. Afternoon flight to Roatán, the largest of Honduras’ Bay Islands. Settle into your beachfront hotel on West Bay Beach — consistently voted one of the Caribbean’s best. Evening: sunset dinner on the beach. Overnight in West Bay.
Days 5-6: Roatán — World-Class Diving & Snorkeling
Two full days on the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef — the world’s second-largest coral reef system. Roatán’s waters offer some of the Caribbean’s best diving: 30m+ visibility, vibrant coral gardens, the famous Blue Channel swim-through, and abundant marine life including sea turtles, eagle rays, moray eels, and kaleidoscopic reef fish. Two-tank dive trips daily (certified divers) OR snorkeling excursions for non-divers. Afternoon options: visit the Roatán Institute for Marine Sciences to learn about dolphin research, explore the Carambola Botanical Gardens, or relax on West Bay Beach. Overnights in West Bay.
Day 7: Roatán — East End Exploration & Garifuna Culture
Explore Roatán’s wilder East End. Visit Punta Gorda — the first Garifuna settlement on the island (1797). Experience Garifuna culture: traditional drumming, punta dancing, and cassava bread making — this Afro-Indigenous culture is UNESCO-recognized. Afternoon: Port Royal, the historic pirate stronghold. Farewell seafood dinner. Overnight in West Bay.
Day 8: Depart Roatán
Morning at leisure. Transfer to Roatán International Airport for departure.
