Day 1: Arrive Nuuk — Arctic Capital
Arrive at Nuuk Airport. Transfer to hotel. Afternoon exploration of Greenland’s capital (population 19,000). Visit the colonial harbor with its historic wooden buildings. Walk to the statue of Hans Egede overlooking the city. Evening at a waterfront restaurant sampling Greenlandic tapas: dried whale, shrimp, and mattak (whale skin).
Day 2: Nuuk’s Cultural Treasures
Morning at the Greenland National Museum — home to the world-famous Qilakitsoq mummies, six remarkably preserved Inuit women and children from 1475 AD. Visit the Hans Egede Church and the old colonial buildings of the historic quarter. Afternoon: Katuaq Cultural Centre for Greenlandic art and design. Evening at Nuuk’s microbrewery sampling beers made with 1,000-year-old glacial water.
Day 3: Nuuk Fjord & Fly to Ilulissat
Morning fjord excursion from Nuuk — explore the world’s second-largest fjord system. Opportunity to spot humpback whales (June-September). Afternoon flight to Ilulissat (2 hours). Transfer to hotel on the edge of the Icefjord. First sunset views of the iceberg graveyard.
Day 4: Ilulissat Icefjord — UNESCO Wonder
Full-day exploration of the Ilulissat Icefjord. Morning hike through Sermermiut Valley to the fjord mouth — watch icebergs battle through the narrow passage. Day 5: Disko Island — Arctic Volcano
Day trip to Qeqertarsuaq on Disko Island. Hike the unique volcanic landscape with basalt columns rivaling Giant’s Causeway. Visit the Arctic Station research facility. Afternoon hike to warm springs for a surreal Arctic soak. Traditional Greenlandic lunch with a Disko family. Return to Ilulissat.
Day 6: Trek to Disko Mountain Lodge
Boat transfer to the trailhead. 4-hour guided trek through spectacular Disko Bay backcountry to the remote Disko Mountain Lodge — a wilderness hut perched between mountains and ice. Day 9: Departure
Final morning watching icebergs from the shore. Transfer to Ilulissat Airport for departure — having experienced Greenland from capital to glacier, from 500-year-old mummies to today’s kaffemik traditions.
