Day 1: Arrive Accra

Akwaaba! Welcome to Accra, Ghana’s vibrant capital. Transfer to your hotel. Afternoon orientation walk through the Osu neighborhood — Oxford Street, African fabric shops, and street food stalls. Evening at Labadi Beach for live highlife music. Overnight in Accra.

Day 2: Accra City Tour

Full day discovering Accra: Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park and Mausoleum, Independence Square (Black Star Square), the National Museum, and the bustling Makola Market. Afternoon visit to the W.E.B. Du Bois Center — the final home of the African-American scholar. Evening at Jamestown fishing harbor to see the iconic lighthouse and colorful pirogues. Overnight in Accra.

Day 3: Cape Coast Castle — Door of No Return

Drive west along the coast to Cape Coast Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the most significant slave trade monuments in the world. Walk through the dungeons, stand at the Door of No Return, and pay respects at the memorial. Afternoon at Cape Coast town market. Overnight at a beach resort at Elmina.

Day 4: Elmina Castle & Kakum Canopy Walk

Morning visit to Elmina Castle — the oldest European building in sub-Saharan Africa (built 1482). Explore the dungeons, governor’s quarters, and the poignant “Room of No Return.” Afternoon adventure at Kakum National Park — walk the famous canopy walkway suspended 30 meters above the rainforest floor. Evening at leisure on the beach. Overnight at Elmina.

Day 5: Kumasi — Heart of the Ashanti Kingdom

Journey inland to Kumasi, capital of the historic Ashanti Kingdom. Visit the Manhyia Palace Museum — the seat of the Ashanti royal family. Explore the Kejetia Market, one of West Africa’s largest open-air markets. Afternoon visit to the National Cultural Centre with craft workshops and the Prempeh II Jubilee Museum. Overnight in Kumasi.

Day 6: Ashanti Craft Villages

Full day exploring Ashanti traditional crafts. Visit Ntonso for Adinkra cloth stamping — create your own Adinkra symbols. Continue to Bonwire, birthplace of Kente cloth, and watch master weavers create the intricate royal fabric on traditional looms. Afternoon in Ahwiaa, the woodcarving village, to see artisans sculpt stools, masks, and fertility dolls. Overnight in Kumasi.

Day 7: Boti Falls & Aburi Gardens

Travel to the Eastern Region. Hike to Boti Falls — a spectacular twin waterfall sacred to local communities. Swim in the natural pool at the base. Drive to Aburi Botanical Gardens, established in 1890, with its magnificent tree-lined avenues, tropical flowers, and the famous “tree that walks” (Ficus). Return to Accra for farewell dinner. Overnight in Accra.

Day 8: Depart Accra

Morning visit to the Artists Alliance Gallery for last-minute art and craft shopping. Transfer to Kotoka International Airport. Medaase — thank you, Ghana!
