Day 1: Arrival in Ljubljana — Castle & Old Town
Welcome to Ljubljana, one of Europe’s most lovable and walkable capital cities. Upon arrival at Ljubljana Airport, you are met by your STM Tours guide and transferred to the Best Western Premier Hotel Slon, a historic property in the heart of the city centre — “Slon” means “Elephant,” named for the elephant that Habsburg Archduke Maximilian brought to Ljubljana in 1551. After settling in, your exploration begins with a ride on the funicular railway up Castle Hill to Ljubljana Castle, a magnificent medieval fortress with roots stretching back to the 11th century. Explore the castle’s ramparts, climb the Viewing Tower for a 360-degree panorama of the city and distant Alps, and visit the Slovenian History Exhibition in the renovated bastion. Descend to the Old Town and embark on a guided walking tour: the magnificent Triple Bridge by architect Joze Plecnik, the baroque Robba Fountain (Slovenia’s Trevi), the bustling Central Market, and the Dragon Bridge guarded by four bronze dragons — the symbol of the city. Welcome dinner at a riverside restaurant featuring Slovenian wines and seasonal specialties.

Day 2: Postojna Cave & Predjama Castle — Underground & Cliff-High
After a leisurely breakfast, depart for the Karst region, approximately 45 minutes from Ljubljana. Your first stop is the world-famous Postojna Cave, a 24-kilometre underground karst system that has welcomed over 40 million visitors since opening in 1819. Board the unique electric cave train — in operation since 1872 — for a 3.7-kilometre journey through spectacular halls sculpted over millions of years. Disembark deep inside the mountain to walk through the most beautiful chambers: the Spaghetti Hall with its ceiling of needle-thin stalactites, the Red Hall coloured by iron oxide, and the vast Concert Hall where up to 10,000 spectators can be seated for orchestral performances. Your guide points out the olm (Proteus anguinus), a blind aquatic salamander that can survive without food for up to 10 years. After the cave, a short drive brings you to Predjama Castle — one of the world’s most dramatic castles, built into the mouth of a cavern 123 metres up a vertical cliff. Explore the medieval living quarters, the torture chamber, and the atmospheric cave system behind the castle walls. Lunch at a traditional Karst inn featuring prsut (air-dried ham) and teran wine. Return to Ljubljana for a free evening.

Day 3: Ljubljana at Leisure — Museums, Markets & Riverside Charm
Today is yours to discover Ljubljana at your own pace. Start at the Central Market, designed by Plecnik with its elegant riverside colonnade, where farmers and artisans sell fresh produce, cheeses, and crafts. Cross the Butcher’s Bridge — Ljubljana’s version of Paris’s love-lock bridge — adorned with padlocks left by couples from around the world. Visit the National Gallery to see Slovenia’s most important art collection spanning from medieval Gothic to 20th-century Impressionism. Art lovers may also enjoy the Museum of Modern Art or the International Centre of Graphic Arts housed in the stunning Tivoli Mansion. For a green escape, stroll through Tivoli Park, Ljubljana’s largest green space with 5 kilometres of walking paths, formal gardens, and a hilltop castle mansion. In the afternoon, you might take a relaxing boat cruise along the Ljubljanica River for a different perspective of the city’s bridges and baroque buildings. Your guide is available for recommendations and optional excursions, including a visit to the Technical Museum of Slovenia in Bistra or a wine-tasting tour of the Vipava Valley.

Day 4: Lake Bled — Island Church, Castle & Cream Cake
Depart Ljubljana early for a full day at Slovenia’s most iconic destination: Lake Bled. The 45-minute drive takes you past the Sava River into the foothills of the Julian Alps. Upon arrival, the sight of the emerald lake with its fairy-tale island, white church spire, and clifftop castle is simply breathtaking. Take a traditional Pletna boat — a flat-bottomed wooden vessel handcrafted and rowed standing up by a skilled oarsman using the unique stehrudder technique — across the lake to Bled Island. Climb the 99 Baroque stone steps to the Church of the Assumption, pull the Wishing Bell rope, and your wish will be granted. After exploring the island, visit the medieval Bled Castle, dramatically perched 130 metres above the lake. The castle terrace is arguably one of the most beautiful viewpoints in all of Europe — the perfect spot for your souvenir photograph. Inside, tour the museum housing a fascinating collection of ancient Slavic and medieval artifacts, visit the working castle printing press, and perhaps bottle your own wine label in the castle wine cellar. Before departing, no visit to Bled is complete without sampling a slice of kremna rezina (Bled cream cake) at the lakefront Park Hotel Cafe — a protected recipe since 1953. Return to Ljubljana for your farewell evening.
