Day 1: Arrival in Ljubljana
Welcome to Slovenia! Upon arrival at Ljubljana Airport, you will be met by your Explore! guide and transferred to your hotel in the heart of the capital. After a brief orientation, set out on a guided walking tour of Ljubljana’s baroque and art nouveau Old Town. Cross the magnificent Triple Bridge designed by the celebrated architect Joze Plecnik, admire the baroque facade of St. Nicholas Cathedral with its bronze doors depicting 1,250 years of Slovenian Christianity, and stroll through the charming cobbled streets of the medieval core. Day 2: Ljubljana to Lake Bled — Fairy-Tale Island
After breakfast, transfer to the world-famous Lake Bled (approximately 45 minutes). The emerald-green glacial lake, with its picture-perfect island church and medieval castle clinging to a cliff, is one of Europe’s most photographed scenes. Take a traditional wooden Pletna boat — handcrafted and operated by oarsmen using a technique passed down through generations — to Bled Island. Climb the 99 stone steps to the Church of the Assumption and ring the Wishing Bell for good luck. Return to shore and visit Bled Castle, Slovenia’s oldest castle, perched 130 metres above the lake. The castle museum displays ancient Slavic artifacts, and the terrace offers truly unforgettable views. In the afternoon, walk the 6-kilometre lakeside path circling the entire lake, stopping to sample a slice of the legendary Bled cream cake (kremna rezina) at the Park Hotel Cafe, where the original recipe has been prepared since 1953.

Day 3: Triglav National Park — Heart of the Julian Alps
Today is dedicated to exploring Triglav National Park, Slovenia’s only national park and one of Europe’s oldest, established in 1924. Named after Mount Triglav (2,864m), the nation’s highest peak and symbol, the park encompasses 838 square kilometres of pristine alpine wilderness. Your guide leads you along well-marked trails through flower-filled alpine meadows, past traditional wooden shepherds’ huts, and alongside crystal-clear mountain streams. Depending on weather and group preference, choose from several hiking routes: the Pericnik Waterfall trail (52-metre cascade you can walk behind), the Pokljuka Plateau with its vast spruce forests, or the Vrata Valley with direct views of Triglav’s imposing North Face. Picnic lunch amidst wildflowers with panoramic views of jagged limestone peaks. In the afternoon, visit the Alpine Dairy Museum in Stara Fuzina to learn about traditional cheese-making and mountain pasture culture.

Day 4: Lake Bohinj — Slovenia’s Glacial Gem
Journey to Lake Bohinj, Slovenia’s largest permanent natural lake, nestled deep in the Julian Alps. Unlike bustling Bled, Bohinj retains a peaceful, untouched character — the lake fills a glacially carved basin surrounded by steep mountain walls. Begin with a walk along the northern shore through dense beech and spruce forest to the Church of St. John the Baptist, a medieval stone church with vivid 15th-century frescoes. Then hike up to the magnificent Savica Waterfall, a 78-metre A-shaped cascade thundering over a vertical limestone cliff. The climb involves 550 steps, but the sight of the waterfall splitting into two streams from a hidden underground lake source is worth every step. In the afternoon, you have the option to ride the Vogel Cable Car (subject to seasonal operation) to 1,533 metres for spectacular panoramic views of the lake, surrounding mountains, and on clear days, as far as the Adriatic Sea. Return to Bled for the evening.

Day 5: Julian Alps Scenic Railway & Nova Gorica
This morning, experience one of Europe’s most scenic train journeys. Board the train from Bled-Jezero station, traveling through the Bohinj Railway tunnel (6,327 metres) — the longest railway tunnel in Slovenia, built in 1906 — emerging in the spectacular Baca Valley. The railway hugs the mountainside as it follows the turquoise Soca River southward, offering breathtaking views of the Julian Alps’ southern slopes. Disembark at Most na Soci and continue by road to Nova Gorica, a city that straddles the border with Italy. Enjoy free time to explore the Sveta Gora (Holy Mountain) monastery, perched 681 metres high with commanding views, or cross into Gorizia, Italy, for a taste of two cultures in one afternoon — espresso in Italy, cevapcici back in Slovenia. Visit the Dobrovo Castle wine cellar for a tasting of Goriska Brda wines, often called “Slovenia’s Tuscany” for its rolling vineyard landscapes.

Day 6: Predjama Castle & Postojna Cave
Depart Nova Gorica for the Karst region. Your first stop is the extraordinary Predjama Castle, a Renaissance fortress dramatically embedded in the mouth of a cavern halfway up a 123-metre cliff. Built over centuries starting in the 12th century, the castle’s most famous resident was the rebellious knight Erasmus Lueger, who held out against a year-long siege by using a secret cave passage to smuggle in food. Explore the castle’s medieval living quarters, dungeon, weapons collection, and the cave system behind the castle walls. A short drive brings you to Postojna Cave, a UNESCO-listed marvel and the most biologically diverse cave in the world. Board the electric train for a journey through glittering halls — the Spaghetti Hall lined with needle-thin stalactites, the enormous Concert Hall where symphony orchestras perform, and the Red Hall painted in rust tones by iron oxide deposits. Encounter the olm (human fish), a blind aquatic salamander found nowhere else on Earth, once believed to be baby dragons. Continue to Ljubljana for overnight.

Day 7: Piran — Venice of the Adriatic
After breakfast, drive southwest to the Slovenian coast. Arrive in Piran, one of the most beautifully preserved Venetian harbour towns on the Adriatic. The entire Old Town is a protected monument, with narrow winding streets and tightly packed houses revealing Venetian-Gothic elegance. Climb to St. George’s Cathedral, whose free-standing bell tower — a copy of Venice’s Campanile — offers sweeping views over terracotta roofs toward Italy and Croatia. Walk the ancient town walls for another perspective of this stunning peninsular town. Visit Tartini Square, the elegant oval-shaped piazza named after the violinist Giuseppe Tartini, whose statue stands at the centre. In the afternoon, stroll along the seafront promenade to the Punta lighthouse or relax at a seaside cafe with a glass of local Malvazija wine. If time permits, stop at the salt pans of Secovlje, where sea salt has been harvested using medieval methods for over 700 years. Return to Ljubljana in the evening.

On your final morning, enjoy free time to revisit your favourite corners of Ljubljana. Browse the Central Market for edible souvenirs — pumpkin seed oil, honey, and dried Karst prosciutto. Visit the National Gallery to see works by Slovenia’s most celebrated painters, or ride the funicular to Ljubljana Castle for a farewell panorama. Your guide will then transfer you to Ljubljana Airport for your departure flight.
