Totally Morocco — 10-Day Complete Imperial Cities & Sahara from Casablanca

Day 1: Arrive Casablanca

Airport greeting. Afternoon: Hassan II Mosque tour — the 210m minaret, retractable roof, 25,000 capacity. Walk the Corniche. Welcome dinner: Moroccan seafood at a beachfront restaurant. Overnight Casablanca.

Day 2: Casablanca to Tangier — Gateway to Africa

Drive the Atlantic coast to Tangier (3.5 hrs). Visit Cap Spartel — the northwesternmost point of Africa where the Atlantic meets the Mediterranean. Explore the Caves of Hercules — the sea cave whose opening is shaped like the map of Africa. Afternoon: Tangier medina — the kasbah with its Andalusian influences, the Petit Socco, and the Grand Socco. Tangier was once an International Zone, home to Paul Bowles, William Burroughs, and the Beat Generation. Overnight Tangier.

Day 3: Tangier to Chefchaouen — Into the Blue

Morning: drive through the Rif Mountains to Chefchaouen. Arrive at the Blue City — every wall, step, and door in shades of blue. Photograph the iconic blue alleyways, visit the Kasbah Museum in the central square, and climb to the Spanish Mosque for sunset. Evening: rooftop dinner with Rif Mountain views. Overnight Chefchaouen.

Day 4: Chefchaouen to Fes via Volubilis

Morning: last blue morning photos. Drive to Volubilis — walk among the Roman ruins and their extraordinary floor mosaics. Continue to Fes. Check into your riad. Evening: first taste of the Fes medina — a walk to Bab Bou Jeloud (the Blue Gate). Overnight Fes.

Day 5: Fes — Imperial Immersion

Full-day Fes exploration: Bou Inania Madrasa, Chouara tanneries (the most famous in Morocco), Al Quaraouiyine University (859 AD), Nejjarine Fountain and Museum, Mellah (Jewish Quarter), and a panoramic view from the Borj Nord fortress. Lunch in the medina: pastilla and harira soup. Overnight Fes.

Day 6: Fes to Merzouga Desert

Cross the Middle Atlas — Ifrane, Azrou (Barbary macaques), and the Ziz Valley’s 20 million date palms. Arrive Merzouga. Camel ride into Erg Chebbi sunset. Desert camp: Berber dinner, drumming, Milky Way. Overnight luxury camp.

Day 7: Merzouga to Dades — Gorge Country

Sahara sunrise. Drive to Rissani (ancient trading town, mausoleum of the Alaouite dynasty’s founder). Continue to Todra Gorge — walk the 300m canyon floor. Afternoon: Dades Valley — Monkey Fingers rocks, winding mountain road. Overnight Dades kasbah hotel.

Day 8: Dades to Marrakech — Kasbah Trail

Drive the Valley of Roses to Ouarzazate (Atlas Studios, Kasbah Taourirt), then Ait Benhaddou (UNESCO citadel). Cross the High Atlas via Tizi n’Tichka (2,260m). Arrive Marrakech. Evening: Jemaa el-Fna at dusk — the square in full sensory overload. Overnight Marrakech.

Day 9: Marrakech Exploration

Guided morning: Koutoubia, Saadian Tombs, Bahia Palace. Afternoon: souks, Majorelle Garden (Yves Saint Laurent’s vibrant blue villa and cactus garden), and the Secret Garden. Farewell dinner: tagine and live Gnaoua music. Overnight Marrakech.

Day 10: Departure

Airport transfer. Depart with Morocco in all its colors — the blue of Chefchaouen, the gold of the Sahara, the green of the Rif, and the red of Marrakech.
