Day 1: Panama City to San Blas — Lemon Cays
Early morning 4×4 pickup from Panama City for the 3-hour jungle crossing to the Caribbean coast of Guna Yala. Board your private lancha (motor boat) and set off into the San Blas archipelago. First stop: the Lemon Cays, a cluster of tiny islands with water so clear you can see the seafloor from the boat. Settle into your rustic cabana on Isla Lemon. Afternoon snorkeling over pristine coral gardens teeming with parrotfish, angelfish, and the occasional nurse shark. Sunset on the beach with fresh ceviche. Overnight Lemon Cays cabana.
Day 2: Guna Community Immersion & Island Hopping
Morning visit to a Guna Yala community on one of the inhabited islands. Learn about Guna governance—the Guna hold the only indigenous autonomous territory in Latin America—and the art of mola-making. Guna women will demonstrate how they create these intricate reverse-appliqué textiles, each one taking weeks or months. Afternoon island-hopping through increasingly remote cays, stopping at deserted sandbars where the only footprints in the sand are yours. Overnight Cayos Holandeses.
Day 3: Cayos Holandeses — The Far Islands
A full day in the Dutch Cays, the archipelago’s northernmost frontier. These islands see fewer visitors in a year than many Caribbean beaches see in a morning. The snorkeling here is world-class—untouched coral formations, sea turtles gliding through crystal water, eagle rays skimming the sandy bottom. Fish for your lunch with a hand line (your Guna guide will show you how), then grill the catch on a driftwood fire right on the beach. Afternoon exploring remote coves and sandbars accessible only by lancha. As the sun sets, you’ll understand why visitors call San Blas ‘the last paradise.’ Overnight Cayos Holandeses.
Day 4: Sunrise Swim & Return
One last swim in the Caribbean at dawn—the water is flat calm and impossibly blue. After breakfast, the lancha journey back through the archipelago to the mainland, then the 4×4 return to Panama City, arriving late afternoon. Transfer to your hotel or the airport.
