Arrive at São Tomé International Airport. Transfer to hotel. Afternoon exploration of the capital: São Sebastião Fortress (1575), the Sé Cathedral, the Mercado Municipal, and the colonial architecture of the old town. Evening at a beachfront restaurant with fresh seafood and views toward the equator. Overnight São Tomé city.
Day 2: Cocoa, Coffee & Colonial Ghosts
Morning drive north to Roça Agostinho Neto — once the world’s largest cocoa plantation, now an atmospheric ghost estate where hospital wards, railway stations, and workers’ quarters lie abandoned to the rainforest. Continue to Roça Diogo Vaz for a chocolate tour and tasting — learn the bean-to-bar journey and sample single-origin chocolate grown on volcanic soil. Afternoon at Monte Café, a historic mountain coffee plantation. Overnight São Tomé city.
Day 3: South Coast & Equator Crossing
Early departure south. Stop at Boca de Inferno blowhole, a dramatic lava tube where waves explode skyward. Visit the abandoned hospital at Roça Água Izé, its empty wards now cathedral-like spaces filled with filtered jungle light. Boat to Ilhéu das Rolas — stand at the Equator monument with one foot in each hemisphere. Swim, snorkel, and hike the island. Lunch on the Equator. Return via São João dos Angolares. Overnight São João dos Angolares.
Day 4: Pico Cão Grande & Rainforest
Morning trek to viewpoints of Pico Cão Grande — the 663-meter volcanic needle that’s one of Africa’s strangest geological wonders. Hike through Obo National Park’s primary rainforest among giant tree ferns, wild orchids, and endemic birds. Visit a palm wine community to see the ancient art of sap collection. Afternoon at Corallo Chocolate Factory for the ultimate tasting experience — discover chocolate the way it’s meant to be. Overnight São Tomé city.
Day 5: Departure
Morning visit to the Mercado Municipal for chocolate, coffee, vanilla, and crafts. Transfer to the airport for departure.
