Day 1: Arrive Socotra
Arrive Hadibu. Afternoon: Delisha Beach. Orientation and equipment check for the 12-day expedition. Welcome dinner. Camp at Delisha.
Day 2: Dixam Plateau — Day & Night
Drive to Dixam Plateau. All-day exploration of the Dragon Blood Tree forest, Desert Rose groves, and Wadi Dirhur canyon. Sunset photography session. After dark: the plateau at 800m offers the island’s best stargazing — the Milky Way arches over the alien silhouettes of Dragon Blood Trees. Camp on Dixam.
Days 3-4: Hajhir Mountain Interior Trek
Two-day trek into the remote interior of the Hajhir Mountains — an area few visitors ever see. Day 1: ascend through frankincense groves and granite formations to a remote mountain camp (1,200m). Pass traditional Socotri herder settlements unchanged for centuries. Day 2: cross the high pass (1,400m) with panoramic views to both coasts. Descend through terraced frankincense gardens. This is the most adventurous section of any Socotra trip.
Day 5: South Coast — The Wild Side
Drive the rugged south coast — Socotra’s least visited coastline. Visit Noged — endless white sand beaches pounded by Indian Ocean swells where no boats can land. See the dramatic coastal cliffs of the southern escarpment. Visit remote fishing communities. Camp on an untouched south coast beach.
Day 6: Eastern Lagoons — Flamingo Country
Journey to Socotra’s eastern lagoons — seasonal wetlands that host the island’s largest Greater Flamingo populations. Spot migrating birds using this crucial Indian Ocean flyway stopover. Visit the Kalahari-like sand formations of the eastern plains. Continue to Arher for overnight.
Day 7: Hoq Cave & Arher
Morning hike to Hoq Cave — explore deeper sections of the 3km cavern. Afternoon at Arher Dunes — sandboarding, swimming, and relaxation after the mountain trek. Camp at Arher.
Day 8: Dihamri & North Coast
Full day at Dihamri MPA — morning and afternoon snorkeling sessions exploring different reef sections. Afternoon: visit the northern cliffs near Ras Ersel where Egyptian Vultures nest. Spot these magnificent birds soaring on thermals. Camp at Dihamri.
Day 9: Homhil & Wadi Kalisan
Morning at Homhil — Cucumber Tree forest and the famous cliff-edge infinity pool. Afternoon: Wadi Kalisan for freshwater pools and the endemic Socotra Sunbird. Evening return to Hadibu for a night at a guesthouse (first shower in days!).
Day 10: Hadibu & Cultural Immersion
Rest and cultural day in Hadibu. Visit the Friday Market (if applicable) — the social heart of Socotra where mountain herders, fishermen, and traders gather. Visit a traditional Socotri home for lunch. Afternoon: visit the small Socotra Museum to understand the island’s unique cultural and natural heritage. Resupply for the western leg.
Day 11: Detwah Lagoon & Qalansiyah
Journey to western Socotra. Full day at Detwah Lagoon — kayaking, swimming, photography. Walk the entire sand spit to its ocean tip. Afternoon hike to the iconic viewpoint. Farewell dinner on the lagoon with fresh lobster — a Socotra specialty. Camp at Qalansiyah.
Day 12: Return & Departure
Dawn at Detwah Lagoon for final photographs. Drive to Hadibu. Last souq visit. Transfer to airport. Fly out having experienced every corner of Earth’s most alien and extraordinary island.
