Itinerary
Day 1: Arrive Malabo
Airport welcome and transfer to your colonial-era hotel. Afternoon Malabo orientation — Santa Isabel Cathedral, Independence Square, the old Spanish administrative buildings with their distinctive green shutters and red-tile roofs. Evening welcome dinner of pepsup and grilled fish at a waterfront restaurant. Overnight in Malabo.
Day 2: Malabo Cultural Deep Dive
Full day exploring Malabo. Morning: National Museum, Central Market, and the Casa Verde. Visit the Malabo National Park for contemporary Equatorial Guinea. Afternoon: explore the Rebola area and a Bubi cultural center — learn about the island’s pre-colonial history, traditional governance systems, and spiritual beliefs. Evening free to explore Malabo’s dining scene. Overnight in Malabo.
Day 3: Northern Coast → Pico Basile Summit
Morning drive along the northern coast road — dramatic views of the Atlantic, stop at small fishing villages. Visit the Cope Bridge area for photographs. After early lunch, begin the ascent of Pico Basile. Multiple stops as the vegetation changes from tropical to montane to alpine. Visit the Bisila Virgin chapel at 2,800m. Reach the 3,011m summit for breathtaking 360-degree views. Descend to Malabo. Overnight in Malabo.
Day 4: Malabo → Moka → Luba → Ureka
Dawn departure to Moka for early morning primate observation. Join the biodiversity research team for forest tracking. Continue to the southern coast — stop at Batete’s famous wooden church, visit a cocoa plantation, and explore Luba’s fishing port and Spanish-colonial remnants. Arrive in Ureka, Bioko’s most remote settlement, by late afternoon. Beach time and possible turtle observation (seasonal). Overnight at Ureka beach camp.
Day 5: Ureka — Beach Day & Rainforest Hike
Full day in and around Ureka. Morning: hike through coastal rainforest to hidden waterfalls — the forest here is some of the most pristine in Central Africa. Afternoon: beach time — swim, snorkel, explore rock pools. The black sand beaches of Ureka are virtually deserted. Evening: beach bonfire and fresh seafood barbecue. Overnight at Ureka beach camp.
Day 6: Ureka → Bilelipa → Sipopo → Malabo
Morning departure from Ureka, driving the full length of Bioko’s eastern coast. Stop at Bilelipa for the waterfall hike. Continue to Sipopo for lunch at the luxury resort complex. Afternoon at Arena Blanca — the island’s most beautiful white sand beach. Swim in the warm Gulf of Guinea waters. Return to Malabo for farewell dinner. Overnight in Malabo.
Day 7: Departure
Morning at leisure. Last shopping for Equatoguinean chocolate, vanilla, and Bubi crafts. Transfer to Malabo International Airport.
