Equatorial Guinea: 3-Day Malabo Express — Spanish Colonial City & Nature

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive Malabo

Airport pickup and transfer to your hotel. Afternoon walking tour of historic Malabo: Santa Isabel Cathedral — a neo-Gothic masterpiece built between 1897-1916 that would look at home in any Spanish city. Independence Square surrounded by colonial-era administrative buildings. The Casa Verde, a 19th-century prefabricated house shipped from Belgium. Evening: welcome drinks at El Barco casino overlooking the Atlantic, then dinner featuring Equatorial Guinea’s unique Spanish-African cuisine. Overnight in Malabo.

Day 2: Pico Basile & Rainforest Adventure

Early breakfast then depart for Pico Basile. The dramatic drive ascends through tropical forest, cloud forest, and subalpine zones. Stop at Moka village to learn about the Bioko Biodiversity Protection Program and observe endemic birds. Continue to the Santuario de la Virgen de Bisila for spectacular views. Reach the 3,011m summit (weather permitting) for the breathtaking panorama. After descent, visit a local cocoa plantation — sample Bioko’s world-class chocolate at the source. Afternoon: hike to Bilelipa Waterfall for a refreshing swim in the natural pool. Return to Malabo. Farewell dinner. Overnight in Malabo.

Day 3: Malabo Markets & Departure

Morning visit to Malabo’s Central Market — a sensory explosion of tropical fruits, fresh fish, colorful textiles, and the unique energy of Africa’s only Spanish-speaking capital. Last chance for Equatoguinean chocolate and vanilla shopping. Visit the Botanical Garden if time permits. Transfer to the airport. Hasta luego — until next time in the Gulf of Guinea.
