Chile: 5-Day Patagonia Explorer — Punta Arenas & Torres del Paine

Chile: 5-Day Patagonia Explorer — Punta Arenas & Torres del Paine

Journey to the end of the world on this 5-day Patagonian expedition. Torres del Paine National Park is widely considered one of the most beautiful places on Earth — a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve where turquoise lakes, glaciers, and the iconic granite towers rise from the Patagonian steppe. Based from Punta Arenas, the southernmost city in Chile, this tour delivers the best of Patagonia in a compact, comfortable format. With 15% off the regular price, this is exceptional value for one of the world’s premier wilderness destinations.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive Punta Arenas
Arrive at Punta Arenas Airport, the gateway to Chilean Patagonia. Transfer to your hotel. Afternoon city tour: visit Plaza Muñoz Gamero with its Magellan monument, the Salesian Museum (Patagonian history and indigenous cultures), and the waterfront. Visit the Magellan Strait penguin colony (seasonal, October–March). Welcome dinner featuring Patagonian lamb and king crab. Overnight Punta Arenas.

Day 2: Punta Arenas — Puerto Natales — Torres del Paine
Early morning drive to Puerto Natales (3 hours) through the Patagonian steppe — watch for guanacos, rhea (ñandú), and Andean condors. Continue to Torres del Paine National Park. First stop: Lake Sarmiento with its remarkable thrombolites (living fossils). Afternoon hike to view the stunning Cuernos del Paine (the Horns) from Lake Nordenskjöld. Optional short walk to Salto Grande waterfall. Overnight inside or near the park.

Day 3: Torres del Paine Full Day — Grey Glacier
Drive to the western sector of the park. Boat cruise on Lake Grey to the face of Grey Glacier — a 6km-wide wall of blue ice that calves icebergs into the lake. Hike to the Grey Peninsula viewpoint for panoramic glacier views. Afternoon visit to Lake Pehoé — the classic postcard view of the Cuernos del Paine reflected in turquoise waters. Wildlife spotting for Andean condors, guanacos, and the elusive Patagonian puma. Overnight near the park.

Day 4: Base of the Towers Hike — Puerto Natales
Early departure for the iconic hike to the Base of the Towers (Base de las Torres). The 8-hour round-trip trek (22km) climbs through lenga forests and glacial moraine to the emerald lake at the base of the three granite towers — the park’s namesake and symbol. This challenging hike rewards with one of the most photogenic views in South America. Return to Puerto Natales in the evening. Celebration dinner. Overnight Puerto Natales.

Day 5: Puerto Natales — Punta Arenas — Departure
Morning exploration of Puerto Natales — the waterfront promenade, the historic cold-storage plant turned cultural center. Visit the Milodón Cave (optional), where remains of a prehistoric giant ground sloth were discovered. Drive back to Punta Arenas (3 hours). Transfer to airport for departure flight.
