Itinerary Highlights

Day 1: Arrive Libreville

Arrival, transfer, orientation tour of Libreville. Visit the National Museum, St. Michel Church with its 31 carved wooden columns telling biblical stories in African style. Overnight in Libreville.

Day 2: Lopé National Park — UNESCO World Heritage

Take the Trans-Gabon Railway into the interior — one of Africa’s great train journeys through dense equatorial rainforest. Arrive at Lopé National Park (UNESCO), where savanna meets rainforest in a landscape unchanged for 400,000 years. Afternoon: 4×4 safari across the northern savannas — spot forest elephants, buffalo, mandrills (world’s largest troops — up to 1,300 individuals!), and the rare sun-tailed guenon monkey found nowhere else. Visit ancient petroglyphs carved by Bantu peoples 2,000+ years ago. Overnight in Lopé lodge.

Day 3: Mandrill Tracking & Forest Elephants

Dawn expedition to track mandrills — Lopé is the best place on Earth to see these spectacular primates in the wild. Walk through ancient rainforest with BaKota guides who read the forest like a book. Visit the ECOFAC research station to learn about gorilla and mandrill conservation. Afternoon: hike to Mount Brazza viewpoint for panoramic views over the rainforest canopy stretching to the horizon. Overnight in Lopé.

Days 4-5: Loango National Park — Where Forest Meets Ocean

Transfer to Loango. Two full days of exploration: gorilla tracking, lagoon safaris, beach walks watching elephants, boat safaris, kayaking through mangroves, and meeting local fishing communities. Full details as per 5-day itinerary above. Overnight in Loango eco-lodge.

Day 6: Lambaréné — Dr. Schweitzer’s Legacy

Journey to Lambaréné on the Ogooué River. Visit the Albert Schweitzer Hospital, founded in 1913 by the Nobel Peace Prize-winning doctor-philosopher — an extraordinary museum of medical history and humanitarianism set on the riverbank. Explore the local market and meet the Galoa and Fang communities. Afternoon pirogue (dugout canoe) trip on the Ogooué, watching fishermen cast their nets as hippos wallow in the shallows. Overnight in Lambaréné.

Day 7: Return to Libreville — Coastal Culture

Drive back to Libreville. Visit the artisan village at Cap Estérias for authentic masks and sculpture — meet the carvers and learn the symbolism behind Fang, Punu, and Kota art. Afternoon: Cap Santa Clara beach. Farewell dinner at La Voile Rouge. Overnight in Libreville.

Day 8: Depart

Transfer to airport. Bon voyage!
