Itinerary Highlights
Days 1-4: Guatemala — Antigua, Pacaya & Lake Atitlán
Start in Antigua Guatemala: colonial walking tour, coffee finca, Pacaya Volcano hike (roasting marshmallows over geothermal vents, watching Fuego erupt), and Lake Atitlán’s indigenous villages. The Maya highlands welcome you with living traditions dating back 3,000 years.
Day 5: Fly Guatemala City to Managua
Morning flight connecting the two countries (1.5 hours). Transfer to Granada, Nicaragua’s oldest city. Afternoon walking tour of Granada’s colonial center.
Day 6-7: Masaya Volcano & Ometepe Island
Day 6: Masaya Volcano’s lava lake at sunset — peer into the glowing crater of one of Earth’s few permanent lava lakes. Day 7: Ometepe Island — hike Maderas Volcano through cloud forest to the crater lake, explore petroglyphs, swim in Lake Nicaragua’s freshwater beaches at Punta Jesús María.
Day 8-9: Granada Colonial & Apoyo Lagoon
Kayak Las Isletas archipelago, explore Granada’s markets and churches. Day 9: Apoyo Lagoon for swimming in a pristine volcanic crater lake, then Catrina viewpoint for the final panorama of Granada, Lake Nicaragua, and Mombacho Volcano.
Day 10: Managua Departure
Transfer to airport for departure — crossing two countries, climbing three volcanoes, exploring Maya pyramids and colonial cities, you’ve experienced the very best of Central America.
