Itinerary Highlights
Day 1: Arrive Malabo
Arrival on Bioko Island. Afternoon Malabo city tour: Santa Isabel Cathedral, Plaza de la Independencia, El Barco. Overnight at Malabo hotel.
Day 2: Fly to Bata — Mainland Equatorial Guinea
Morning flight to Bata, the largest city in Equatorial Guinea’s mainland region (Río Muni). Explore Bata’s grand coastal promenade (Paseo Marítimo), one of Africa’s most ambitious waterfront developments. Visit the Bata Cathedral and the bustling Bata Central Market — one of Central Africa’s largest. Afternoon visit to Torre de la Libertad (Freedom Tower) and the National University campus. Overnight at Bata hotel.
Day 3: Monte Alén National Park
Full-day 4×4 expedition into Monte Alén National Park — 2,000km² of pristine Central African rainforest, one of the region’s best-protected areas. Guided trek through the forest seeking forest elephants, western lowland gorillas, chimpanzees, and the mandrill — the world’s largest monkey with its spectacularly colored face. The park protects one of the highest densities of mandrills in Africa. Visit a traditional Fang village on the park border to learn about their famous Bieri ancestor guardian sculptures that inspired Picasso and the Cubist movement. Overnight at eco-lodge near the park.
Day 4: Mbini River & Atlantic Coast
Drive to the Mbini River estuary, one of Río Muni’s most scenic areas. Visit traditional fishing villages where the Ndowe people, the coastal ethnic group, maintain their centuries-old way of life. Afternoon at a pristine, undeveloped Atlantic beach — Equatorial Guinea’s coastline remains almost entirely untouched by tourism. Visit a cocoa plantation in the Niefang region to understand Equatorial Guinea’s agricultural heritage. Return to Bata for the evening. Overnight at Bata hotel.
Day 5: Cogo & Corisco Bay
Journey south to Cogo, near the Gabon border, a region of lagoons, mangroves, and traditional culture. Visit the picturesque Lagoons of Cogo by motorized pirogue, observing diverse birdlife including African grey parrots, hornbills, and fish eagles. Visit a community project supporting sustainable fishing practices. Afternoon return to Bata. Farewell dinner. Overnight at Bata hotel.
Day 6: Return to Malabo & Depart
Morning flight back to Malabo. Connect to international departure. Option to extend to Gabon or São Tomé.
