Day 1: Arrive Hargeisa — Somaliland
Fly into Egal International Airport in Hargeisa, capital of Somaliland. Your guide meets you and transfers to your hotel. Afternoon orientation: Hargeisa’s central market (Waheen Market), the War Memorial with its iconic MiG fighter jet monument, and the Independence Monument. Day 2: Laas Geel — Ancient Rock Art
Full-day excursion to Laas Geel (45 km from Hargeisa), one of Africa’s most significant Neolithic rock art sites. These extraordinary cave paintings, dated between 9,000-3,000 BCE, are among the best-preserved rock art in Africa, depicting cattle in ceremonial robes, herders, and wild animals in vibrant ochre, white, and red pigments. The site was only discovered by the international archaeological community in 2002. Afternoon visit to a traditional Somali pastoralist settlement to learn about nomadic life. Return to Hargeisa. Overnight at hotel.
Day 3: Hargeisa Culture & Camel Market
Morning visit to the Hargeisa Camel Market — one of the Horn of Africa’s largest livestock markets where thousands of camels, goats, and sheep are traded weekly. Witness the haggling, the loading of animals onto trucks bound for Gulf states, and the social life of Somali herders. Afternoon visit to the Somaliland National Museum. Evening at a local poetry café — Somalis have a 1,500-year tradition of oral poetry that remains central to cultural identity. Overnight at Hargeisa hotel.
Day 4: Berbera — Red Sea Port
Scenic drive (160 km) to Berbera on the Gulf of Aden coast. Berbera was the capital of the British Somaliland protectorate and a key coaling station for ships transiting the Suez Canal in the 19th century. Explore the atmospheric Ottoman-era old town with its coral-stone architecture and crumbling colonial buildings. Visit Berbera Beach, where the turquoise Gulf of Aden meets pristine white sand. Seafood lunch at the port. Afternoon return to Hargeisa. Overnight at hotel.
Day 5: Fly to Mogadishu
Morning flight from Hargeisa to Mogadishu. Secure transfer to your Indian Ocean hotel. Afternoon orientation of the Lido Beach area and a gentle introduction to the city. Evening dinner at a popular seafood restaurant. Overnight at secure Mogadishu hotel.
Day 6: Mogadishu Deep Exploration
