Itinerary Highlights
Day 1-2: Antananarivo
Arrive Tana. Day 2: explore the capital — Queen’s Palace, Andafiavaratra Palace, Analakely market, and artisan workshops. Visit a vanilla cooperative and learn why Madagascar produces 80% of the world’s vanilla. Overnight at Palissandre Hotel & Spa.
Day 3-4: Andasibe — Indri Territory
Drive to Andasibe. Two days of wildlife: morning chorus of indri lemurs, search for diademed sifaka and black-and-white ruffed lemurs. Night walks reveal mouse lemurs, brookesia chameleons (the world’s smallest), and the spectacular comet moth. Overnight at Mantadia Lodge.
Day 5: Antsirabe & Ambositra
Drive south through terraced rice fields and highland villages. Explore Antsirabe — thermal springs, colonial architecture, and artisan workshops. Continue to Ambositra for Zafimaniry woodcarving. Overnight near Ambositra.
Day 6-7: Ranomafana National Park
Two days in Madagascar’s premier rainforest. Search for golden bamboo lemurs, greater bamboo lemurs, red-bellied lemurs, and Milne-Edwards’ sifaka. Discover the park’s incredible chameleons, frogs, and birds. Soak in the thermal hot springs. Overnight at a lodge near Ranomafana.
Day 8: Fianarantsoa to Isalo
Morning in Fianarantsoa — the old town and Madagascar’s wine region. Drive south through dramatic landscapes to Isalo National Park. Sunset arrival at the “Malagasy Grand Canyon.” Overnight at Isalo Ranch.
Day 9-10: Isalo & Ifaty
Day 9: trek through Isalo’s canyons to the natural swimming pools. Spot ring-tailed lemurs, sifakas, and the magnificent scenery. Drive to the coast. Day 10: Ifaty and the spiny forest — baobabs, octopus trees, and coral reef. Afternoon at leisure on the beach. Overnight in Ifaty.
Day 11: Return to Tana
Morning beach time or snorkeling. Fly from Tulear to Tana. Afternoon at the Digue market for souvenirs. Farewell dinner featuring Malagasy zebu steak and vanilla crème brûlée. Overnight in Tana.
Day 12: Depart Madagascar
Transfer to airport. Veloma, Madagasikara!
