Itinerary Highlights
Day 1-2: Arrive Kupang & Border Crossing
Arrive Kupang. Day 2: overland crossing into Timor-Leste. Visit Balibo and continue to Maliana. Overnight in Maliana.
Day 3-5: Timor-Leste
Maubisse, Mount Ramelau sunrise trek, and arrival in Dili. Day 4-5: Dili exploration — Resistance Museum, Cristo Rei, Tais Market. Atauro Island day trip with snorkeling. Overnight in Dili.
Day 6: Dili to Bali
Flight to Bali. Rest and regroup in Sanur. Overnight in Bali.
Day 7-10: West Papua — Baliem Valley
Fly to Jayapura, then to Wamena in the heart of the Baliem Valley. This is one of the world’s most isolated regions — the Dani people had no contact with the outside world until 1938. Three days trekking between traditional Dani villages. Walk through terraced sweet potato fields, cross hanging bridges over rushing rivers, and meet elders who still wear the traditional koteka (penis gourd). The Dani culture, with its pig feasts, warrior traditions, and elaborate decoration, is utterly unique. Overnight in village huts and guesthouses.
Day 11-12: West Papua — Dani Pig Feast & Culture
Participate in or witness a traditional Dani pig feast — the centerpiece of Dani ceremonial life. Earth-oven cooking, traditional dress, mock battles, and dancing. This is one of the most authentic cultural experiences remaining anywhere in the world. Day 12: market day in Wamena — tribes from across the valley gather to trade. Overnight in Wamena.
Day 13-14: Jayapura & Sentani Lake
Fly to Jayapura. Explore Lake Sentani and its stilt villages. Visit the Jayapura Museum. Overnight in Jayapura.
Day 15: Return to Bali
Fly to Bali. Afternoon at leisure. Farewell dinner. Overnight in Bali.
Day 16: Depart Bali
Transfer to Ngurah Rai International Airport.
