Itinerary Highlights
Day 1: Arrive Accra

Day 3: Cape Coast — The Slave Trade
Journey west to Cape Coast. Guided tour of Cape Coast Castle — the dungeons, the chapel, and the “Door of No Return.” This experience is led by a senior historian who provides detailed context about the transatlantic slave trade and its legacy. Afternoon for personal reflection. Overnight at Oasis Beach Resort.
Day 4: Elmina & Assin Manso
Visit Assin Manso, the site of the “Slave River” where captives had their last bath before being sold. Ceremony of remembrance. Then to Elmina Castle for a detailed tour. Afternoon visit to Fort St. Jago for panoramic views. Overnight in Cape Coast.
Day 5: Kakum & Return to Accra
Early morning canopy walkway at Kakum National Park. Nature walk with a botanist guide explaining medicinal plants. Return to Accra. Afternoon visit to the University of Ghana, Legon. Overnight in Accra.
Day 6: Kumasi — Ashanti Kingdom
Fly or drive to Kumasi (included). Visit Manhyia Palace Museum. See the Okomfo Anokye Sword site — the legendary sword planted in the ground 300 years ago that cannot be removed. Afternoon at Prempeh II Jubilee Museum. Overnight at Golden Tulip Kumasi.
Day 7: Ashanti Craft Villages
Full day visiting craft villages: Bonwire (kente), Ntonso (adinkra), Ahwiaa (carving). Each craft has deep symbolic meaning in Ashanti culture. Learn to read adinkra symbols, each a proverb in visual form. Overnight in Kumasi.
Day 8: Lake Bosomtwe & Return to Accra
Visit Lake Bosomtwe, Ghana’s only natural lake, formed in a meteorite impact crater over a million years ago. Sacred to the Ashanti people. Afternoon return to Accra. Overnight in Accra.
Day 9: Accra — Contemporary Ghana
Visit Nubuke Foundation for contemporary Ghanaian art. Afternoon at the Makola Market. Panel discussion with local academics on Ghana’s role in 21st-century Africa. Farewell dinner.
Day 10: Depart Accra
Final souvenir shopping at the Arts Centre. Transfer to airport.
