Itinerary Highlights
Day 1: Arrival in Castries & Rodney Bay
Arrive at Hewanorra International Airport (Vieux Fort, St. Lucia) or George F. L. Charles Airport (Castries). Transfer to your hotel in Rodney Bay or Castries. Explore Castries, the capital and largest city of St. Lucia, a vibrant Caribbean city with its colorful markets, colonial architecture, and beautiful harbor. Visit the Castries Market (a bustling market with its fresh tropical fruits, vegetables, spices, crafts, and local food), the Derek Walcott Square (named after the Nobel Prize-winning St. Lucian poet Derek Walcott), the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, the Government House, and the various colonial buildings and plazas. Visit the La Toc Battery and Fort Charlotte (historic forts with beautiful views of the harbor). After lunch, drive to Rodney Bay (approximately 30 minutes), one of the most popular tourist areas in St. Lucia, with its beautiful beaches, marina, shopping malls, restaurants, bars, and the famous Pigeon Island National Park. Visit Pigeon Island National Park (a beautiful national park on a small island connected to the mainland by a causeway, with its beautiful beaches, hiking trails, historic forts (Fort Rodney and Fort James), and stunning views). Hike to the top of Fort Rodney for panoramic views of Rodney Bay and the Martinique channel. Visit the nearby Reduit Beach (a beautiful white sand beach in Rodney Bay). Evening welcome dinner with St. Lucian cuisine including green figs and saltfish (the national dish), callaloo soup, jerk chicken, fresh seafood, and the famous St. Lucian rum punch. Overnight in Rodney Bay.
Day 2: Rodney Bay to Soufrière (via West Coast)
Morning drive from Rodney Bay to Soufrière (approximately 1.5-2 hours), along the beautiful west coast of St. Lucia, passing through beautiful coastal villages, lush rainforests, banana plantations, and stunning coastal scenery. Along the way, visit the beautiful Anse Chastanet beach (a stunning black sand beach with crystal-clear water, beautiful coral reefs just offshore, and the stunning backdrop of the Pitons), the nearby Anse Mamin beach, and the various other beautiful beaches along the coast. Visit the town of Canaries and the town of Anse La Raye, beautiful fishing villages with their colorful houses and bustling fish markets. Upon arrival in Soufrière, the oldest town in St. Lucia, founded by the French in 1746, located in the shadow of the iconic Pitons, check into your hotel or resort. Explore Soufrière: visit the Soufrière Waterfront, the Soufrière Market, the various restaurants and cafes, and the beautiful views of the Pitons. After lunch, visit the iconic Pitons (the twin volcanic peaks of Gros Piton and Petit Piton, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the most iconic landmarks of St. Lucia, rising dramatically from the ocean to heights of 798 meters and 743 meters). Visit the Piton Management Area and the various viewpoints with stunning views of the Pitons. Optional: hike the Gros Piton (a challenging but rewarding 2-3 hour hike to the summit). Visit the beautiful Sugar Beach (a stunning white sand beach between the two Pitons, one of the most beautiful beaches in the Caribbean). Evening enjoy a beautiful sunset over the Pitons and the ocean. Dinner with fresh seafood and local cuisine at a beachfront restaurant in Soufrière. Overnight in Soufrière.
Day 3: Sulphur Springs Volcano, Mud Baths & Diamond Falls
Morning visit the Sulphur Springs (the world’s only drive-in volcano, a unique geothermal area in Soufrière, where you can drive right into the crater of an extinct volcano, with its bubbling mud pools, hot springs, and the strong smell of sulfur). Drive into the volcano crater and see the bubbling mud pools and hot springs. Take a mud bath (cover yourself in the warm volcanic mud, which is rich in minerals and said to have healing properties, let it dry, and then rinse off in the warm natural pools). After the mud baths, visit the Diamond Falls and Botanical Gardens (a beautiful 6-acre botanical garden in Soufrière, established in 1785 by the French King Louis XVI, with its stunning Diamond Falls (a beautiful 17-meter waterfall with its unique mineral-stained rocks in shades of yellow, orange, red, and green), the beautiful botanical gardens with their collection of tropical plants, flowers, fruit trees, and the historic mineral baths (built by the French in the 18th century). Walk through the beautiful gardens, enjoy the stunning waterfall, and relax in the historic mineral baths. After lunch, visit the nearby town of Soufrière and the beautiful beaches in the area, including the Anse Chastanet beach and the Sugar Beach. Go for a snorkel at the beautiful coral reefs just offshore at Anse Chastanet, which are teeming with tropical fish, coral, and other marine life. Evening enjoy another beautiful sunset over the Pitons. Dinner with local cuisine and fresh seafood. Overnight in Soufrière.
Day 4: Marigot Bay, Anse Chastanet Snorkeling & Rainforest
Morning visit Marigot Bay (one of the most beautiful bays in the Caribbean, a stunning horseshoe-shaped bay surrounded by lush green hills, with its calm turquoise water, beautiful marina, and the stunning backdrop of the surrounding mountains. Marigot Bay was made famous by the movie Doctor Dolittle). Take a boat ride into the bay, enjoying the stunning scenery, or relax at one of the beachfront restaurants and bars. Visit the beautiful beaches of Marigot Bay and go for a swim. Afterward, return to Anse Chastanet for a snorkeling trip at the beautiful coral reefs just offshore (the reefs at Anse Chastanet are some of the best in St. Lucia, with their vibrant coral, abundant tropical fish, sea turtles, rays, and other marine life). Snorkel or dive at the various sites along the coast, including the famous Superman’s Flight (a beautiful drift dive along the coast). Visit the nearby Anse Mamin beach and the surrounding area. After lunch, visit the Edmund Forest Reserve (a beautiful rainforest reserve in the interior of St. Lucia, with its lush rainforest, beautiful waterfalls, hiking trails, and diverse wildlife including the St. Lucian parrot (the national bird, an endangered species found only in St. Lucia)). Take a guided hike through the rainforest, enjoying the beautiful scenery, the diverse flora and fauna, and the beautiful waterfalls. Visit the nearby Tet Paul Nature Trail (a beautiful short hike with stunning panoramic views of the Pitons, the ocean, and the surrounding area). Evening return to Soufrière or Rodney Bay. Enjoy a farewell dinner with St. Lucian cuisine and fresh seafood, reflecting on the incredible experiences of the trip. Overnight in Soufrière or Rodney Bay.
Day 5: Final Beach Day & Departure
Morning free for a final beach day, snorkeling, or relaxation at one of the beautiful beaches of St. Lucia. Visit the Reduit Beach in Rodney Bay, the Anse Chastanet beach, the Sugar Beach, or the Vigie Beach near Castries. Go for a final swim or snorkel, or just relax on the beach and enjoy the beautiful Caribbean sun. Do some last-minute shopping for St. Lucian products including rum, spices, crafts, art, and local products. Visit the Castries Market or the duty-free shops for souvenirs.
