Socotra Explorer: 7-Day Comprehensive Island Circuit from Abu Dhabi

Day 1: Abu Dhabi to Socotra

Early morning flight from Abu Dhabi International Airport (approximately 2 hours). Arrive Hadibu. Transfer to camp. Afternoon: Delisha Beach — swim in crystal-clear Arabian Sea. Visit Hadibu’s small souq. Evening briefing. Camp at Delisha.

Day 2: Dragon Blood Forest & Desert Rose

Morning drive to Dixam Plateau. Walk through groves of 500-year-old Dragon Blood Trees. Photograph the bizarre Desert Rose (Adenium socotranum) growing from bare rock. Panoramic views of Wadi Dirhur canyon. Afternoon visit to a Socotri mountain village — meet local families, learn about traditional life, enjoy cardamom-spiced tea. Camp on Dixam Plateau.

Day 3: Bottle Trees & Cliff-edge Pools

Morning at Homhil Protected Area. Walk through the Cucumber Tree forest — the world’s only bottle-shaped tree species. Reach the cliff-edge infinity pool — swim while gazing at the Indian Ocean 300m below. Afternoon descent to the coast. Camp at Arher.

Day 4: Arher Dunes & Hoq Cave

Sunrise on Arher’s white dunes. Morning hike to Hoq Cave — 3km subterranean cathedral with ancient inscriptions. Afternoon return to Arher for swimming and sandboarding. Optional: hike to the freshwater spring emerging from the dune base. Camp at Arher under the Milky Way.

Day 5: Dihamri Marine Paradise

Full day at Dihamri Marine Protected Area. Morning snorkeling session — pristine coral gardens, parrotfish, rays, and moray eels. Beach lunch. Afternoon second snorkel session or relaxation. The underwater biodiversity here rivals any destination on Earth. Camp at Dihamri Beach.

Day 6: Detwah Lagoon & Qalansiyah

Journey to western Socotra. Visit Detwah Lagoon — the icon of Socotra. Kayak in the turquoise lagoon. Walk the narrow sand spit to the open ocean. Spot rays and turtles. Afternoon hike to the viewpoint above the lagoon for the classic photograph. Farewell dinner with fresh-caught fish on the lagoon. Camp at Qalansiyah.

Day 7: Return to Abu Dhabi

Morning drive to Hadibu. Last visit to the souq for Dragon Blood resin, Socotri frankincense, and local honey. Transfer to Hadibu Airport. Afternoon flight back to Abu Dhabi. Arrive with memories of Earth’s most alien island.
