Itinerary Highlights

Day 1: Arrival in São Tomé & City Tour

Arrive at São Tomé International Airport (São Tomé, São Tomé and Príncipe). Transfer to your hotel. Explore São Tomé, the capital and largest city, a colorful colonial city with its beautiful Portuguese colonial architecture, its vibrant markets, its waterfront, and its unique atmosphere. Visit the historic center of São Tomé: the Presidential Palace (a beautiful Portuguese colonial building), the Sé Cathedral (the main cathedral, a beautiful colonial church), the National Museum (housed in the historic Fort São Sebastião, with its exhibits on the history, culture, and natural heritage of São Tomé and Príncipe), the various colonial buildings and plazas, and the beautiful waterfront. Visit the São Sebastião Fort (a historic Portuguese fort on a hill overlooking the city and the ocean, with stunning views). Visit the bustling Mercado Central (Central Market, a vibrant market with its fresh tropical fruits, vegetables, fish, spices, crafts, and local food, a great place to experience the vibrant culture). Day 2: Obo National Park & Waterfalls

Morning drive into the interior of São Tomé to Obo National Park (a beautiful national park covering the central and southern parts of the island, with its lush primary rainforest, its stunning waterfalls, its diverse wildlife, and its beautiful mountain scenery. The park is home to Pico de São Tomé (the highest mountain on the island, at 2,024 meters, an extinct volcano with its beautiful rainforest and unique wildlife). Visit the stunning waterfalls of São Tomé: visit the Cascata de São Nicolau (a beautiful waterfall in the rainforest, with its stunning natural pool perfect for swimming), the Cascata do Xufexufe (another beautiful waterfall), the various other waterfalls in the park. Day 3: Cocoa Plantations & Colonial Heritage

Full day exploring the historic cocoa plantations (roças) and colonial heritage of São Tomé. São Tomé and Príncipe was once one of the largest cocoa producers in the world, and the island is dotted with historic cocoa plantations with their beautiful colonial buildings, churches, schools, hospitals, and processing facilities. Visit the famous Roça Agostinho Neto (a historic cocoa plantation, now a museum and cultural center, with its beautiful colonial buildings, its exhibits on the history of cocoa and the plantation system, and its beautiful setting).
