Itinerary Highlights

Day 1: Arrive Qingdao — German Heritage Walking

Welcome to Qingdao — China’s most European city. Driver will pick you up from the airport. Begin at the Tsingtao Beer Museum in the original 1903 German brewery building — taste unpasteurized fresh draft beer straight from the brew. Walk the Old Town with its cobblestone streets lined with European mansions. Visit the modern May 4th Square, the iconic landmark of modern Qingdao. Afternoon: walk through the 1930s Eight Passes (Badaguan) area — once home to diplomats and diplomats’ retinues. See 200+ preserved villas including a Romanesque-style villa, a Gothic church, and a Spanish villa. Overnight in Qingdao.

Day 2: Laoshan — Mountain & Sea

Drive to Laoshan Mountain (1,133m) — the sacred mountain of Taoism. Take cable car to the summit for views of the coastline. Walk the ridge path to Taiqing Palace, the largest Taoist temple in China (founded 904 AD). Visit the “Shangqing Temple,” built into a sea cliff. Visit the “Pyramid Stone,” one of the mountain’s most photogenic monoliths. Afternoon return to Qingdao for leisure time: relax on the No. 1 Beach at Huiquan Bay, considered one of China’s cleanest urban beaches; or stroll along the Olympic Sailing Center. Evening at the famous Pijiu Street (Beer Street) for seafood and Tsingtao drafts. Overnight in Qingdao.

Day 3: Beaches, Museums & Depart

Morning at Zhanqiao Pier, the symbol of Qingdao — a 440-meter sea walkway with the iconic Huilan Pavilion over the waves (built 1891). Continue to the Underwater World museum to see the rare marine life of China’s Yellow Sea. Visit Qingdao Municipal Museum to understand the city’s 130-year colonial history. Optional: take a 1-hour Yang Yonghe Sightseeing boat tour of the harbor. Lunch of fresh Qingdao seafood. Afternoon departure.
