Tour Overview

Itinerary Highlights

Day 1-2: Port Moresby

Arrive Port Moresby. Day 2: National Museum, Parliament House, and Nature Park to see birds of paradise up close. Overnight in POM.

Day 3: Fly to Mount Hagen

Flight to Mount Hagen, capital of the Western Highlands. Afternoon visit to a Huli wigmen village — the Huli are famous for their elaborate ceremonial wigs made from their own hair, decorated with bird of paradise feathers. Overnight in Mount Hagen.

Day 4: Mount Hagen — Kumul Lodge

Drive to Kumul Lodge, one of the world’s premier birding lodges. The feeders attract numerous species of birds of paradise — including the Ribbon-tailed Astrapia with tail feathers up to 1 meter long. Afternoon nature walk in the cloud forest. Overnight at Kumul Lodge.

Day 5-6: Goroka Show

Drive to Goroka. VIP entry to the Goroka Show for two days. 150 performing groups from across the highlands. Priority viewing positions for photography. Overnight in Goroka.

Day 7: Asaro & Tari

Morning with the Asaro Mudmen. Afternoon fly to Tari in the Southern Highlands, heartland of the Huli people. Overnight at Ambua Lodge, one of PNG’s most iconic properties.

Day 8: Tari Basin — Huli Culture

Full day in the Tari Basin. Visit multiple Huli villages to see wig schools, sing-sing performances, and traditional healing practices. The Huli’s body painting with ochre and yellow clay is spectacular. Overnight at Ambua Lodge.

Day 9: Return to Port Moresby

Flight to POM. Afternoon at leisure or visit the Hanuabada stilt village, the largest stilt village in the Pacific. Farewell dinner.

Day 10: Depart PNG

Transfer to Jackson International Airport.
