Itinerary Highlights

Day 1: Arrival in Managua & León

Arrive at Augusto C. Sandino International Airport (Managua, Nicaragua). Transfer to your hotel. Explore Managua, the capital and largest city of Nicaragua, located on the shores of Lake Managua, with its vibrant culture, its historic sites, and its beautiful surroundings. Visit the Historic Center of Managua: the Plaza de la Revolución (Revolution Square, with its iconic monuments including the Acahualinca Footprints Museum, the National Palace, and the Rubén Darío National Theatre), the National Palace (a beautiful neoclassical building, now housing the National Museum), the Rubén Darío National Theatre (a beautiful theater named after the famous Nicaraguan poet Rubén Darío), the Acahualinca Footprints Museum (with its famous fossilized footprints of humans and animals dating back over 6,000 years), the Old Cathedral (Catedral de Santiago, a beautiful neoclassical cathedral that was damaged in the 1972 earthquake and is now a historic site), the New Cathedral (Catedral de la Asunción, a stunning modern cathedral designed by the famous architect Ricardo Legorreta, with its unique architecture and beautiful interior), and the various other historic sites. Explore León: visit the León Cathedral (the largest cathedral in Central America, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, a stunning neoclassical cathedral with its beautiful architecture, its stunning interior, and the tomb of the famous Nicaraguan poet Rubén Darío), the various historic churches (including the Church of La Recolección, the Church of La Merced, the Church of San Francisco, and the various other beautiful colonial churches), the historic center with its beautiful colonial buildings, its cobblestone streets, and its vibrant atmosphere. Visit the Museo de Arte Fundación Ortiz Gurdián (one of the most important art museums in Nicaragua, with its collection of Nicaraguan and international art). Day 2: León to Granada & Masaya Volcano

Morning continue exploring León, visiting any sites you may have missed. Visit the nearby beaches on the Pacific coast (if time permits, including the beautiful beaches of Poneloya and Las Peñitas, with their beautiful black sand beaches and the stunning ocean views). After lunch, drive from León to Granada (approximately 2 hours), one of the most beautiful and best-preserved colonial cities in Nicaragua, founded in 1524 by the Spanish conquistador Francisco Hernández de Córdoba, one of the oldest European-founded cities in the Americas, with its stunning colonial architecture, its beautiful churches, its colorful buildings, its cobblestone streets, and its beautiful setting on the shores of Lake Nicaragua. Explore Granada: visit the Granada Cathedral (a beautiful neoclassical cathedral on the main square, with its stunning architecture and its beautiful interior), the Parque Central (the main square of Granada, with its beautiful gardens, its fountain, and the surrounding colonial buildings), the various historic churches (including the Church of La Merced, the Church of San Francisco, the Church of Guadalupe, and the various other beautiful colonial churches), the historic center with its beautiful colorful colonial buildings, its cobblestone streets, and its vibrant atmosphere. Visit the Convento y Museo de San Francisco (a beautiful colonial convent, now a museum, with its collection of pre-Columbian artifacts and its beautiful courtyard). Day 3: Isletas de Granada & Departure

Morning take a boat trip to the Isletas de Granada (a group of over 365 small islands in Lake Nicaragua, just off the coast of Granada, formed by a volcanic eruption thousands of years ago, with their beautiful scenery, their lush vegetation, their wildlife (including howler monkeys, birds, and iguanas), and the various private homes and small hotels on the islands). Take a boat ride through the isletas, enjoying the beautiful scenery, the wildlife, and the peaceful atmosphere. Visit the Fort of San Pablo (a historic Spanish fort on one of the islands, built in the 18th century to defend against pirates, with its beautiful ruins and its fascinating history). Visit the various islands and enjoy the beautiful scenery and the wildlife.
