Itinerary Highlights

Day 1: Fly to Kulusuk — Edge of the Ice

Flight from Reykjavik to Kulusuk, a tiny East Greenland settlement on an island surrounded by ice-filled fjords. Transfer to your guesthouse. Afternoon walk to the edge of the settlement — icebergs drift past just meters from shore. Overnight in Kulusuk.

Day 2: Boat to Tiniteqilaaq — Into Serrmilik Fjord

Boat journey through the Serrmilik Icefjord to Tiniteqilaaq, one of Greenland’s most remote villages (population ~100). The boat navigates through a maze of icebergs — some the size of buildings. Check into traditional Greenlandic accommodation. Evening introduction to the local community. Overnight in Tiniteqilaaq.

Day 3-4: The Icefjord Trek — Helheim Glacier

Two days trekking towards the Helheim Glacier, one of Greenland’s largest and fastest-moving glaciers. The trail climbs through Arctic tundra bursting with summer wildflowers — purple saxifrage, Arctic poppies, and cotton grass. From the 538-meter viewpoint, you’ll see the glacier front where 60-meter-high ice cliffs calve constantly into the sea below with thunderous crashes. The fjord before you is choked with icebergs as far as the eye can see. Overnight in tents on the tundra.

Day 5: Ikatek Fjord — WWII History

Trek down to Ikatek Fjord and visit the abandoned WWII American airbase Bluie East Two. Rusting vehicles, radio equipment, and buildings remain exactly as they were left in 1945 — an eerie time capsule in one of the world’s most remote locations. Overnight in camp near Ikatek.

Day 6: Return to Tiniteqilaaq

Trek back to Tiniteqilaaq. Afternoon with the village community — learn about traditional hunting practices, try Greenlandic food (dried whale, seal, Arctic char), and hear stories passed down through generations. Traditional drum dance performance. Overnight in Tiniteqilaaq.

Day 7: Kuummiit & Return to Kulusuk

Boat to Kuummiit, another remote village under towering peaks. Meet local hunters and visit the school. Afternoon boat back to Kulusuk through the ice-filled fjords — your last chance to photograph the icebergs in the golden Arctic light. Farewell dinner of Greenlandic specialties. Overnight in Kulusuk.

Day 8: Depart Kulusuk

Final morning walk among the icebergs. Flight to Reykjavik.
