Itinerary Highlights

Day 1: Arrival in Tegucigalpa & Comayagua

Arrive at Toncontín International Airport (Tegucigalpa, Honduras). Transfer to your hotel. Explore Tegucigalpa, the capital and largest city of Honduras, a vibrant city nestled in the mountains, with its colonial architecture, bustling markets, and vibrant culture. Visit the Historic Center of Tegucigalpa: the Catedral de San Miguel (the main cathedral, a beautiful colonial church), the Parque Central (the main square), the Palacio Nacional (the National Palace, a beautiful colonial building now housing the National Archive and the National Art Gallery), the Iglesia de Los Dolores (a beautiful colonial church with its ornate facade), the Casa Presidencial (the Presidential Palace), and the various colonial buildings and plazas. Visit the National Art Gallery (housed in the former National Palace, with its collection of Honduran art), the National Museum of Anthropology and History (with its exhibits on Honduran history, from the pre-Columbian era to the present, including Maya artifacts and colonial artifacts), and the Parque La Concordia (a beautiful park with its playgrounds and views of the city). Visit the bustling Mercado San Isidro (a large market with its fresh produce, food, clothing, and crafts). After lunch, drive to Comayagua (approximately 1.5-2 hours), one of the oldest and most beautiful colonial cities in Honduras, the former capital of Honduras, with its well-preserved colonial architecture, beautiful churches, and the famous cathedral clock (the oldest clock in the Americas, dating back to the 12th century, brought from Spain by the Spanish colonizers). Visit the Historic Center of Comayagua: the Catedral de la Inmaculada Concepción (the main cathedral, a beautiful colonial church with its famous clock, one of the oldest working clocks in the world), the Parque Central (the main square, with its beautiful fountain and the cathedral), the Casa de la Cultura (the House of Culture, housed in a beautiful colonial building), the Iglesia de La Merced (a beautiful colonial church), the Iglesia de San Francisco (another beautiful colonial church), and the various colonial buildings and plazas. Visit the Comayagua Museum (with its exhibits on the history and culture of Comayagua and Honduras). Visit the famous colonial streets and the beautiful architecture of the city. Evening welcome dinner with Honduran cuisine including baleadas (a popular Honduran dish, a flour tortilla filled with refried beans, cheese, and cream), plátanos fritos (fried plantains), carne asada (grilled meat), and fresh tropical fruits. Overnight in Comayagua.

Day 2: Comayagua to Copán Ruinas & Coffee Region

Morning drive from Comayagua to Copán Ruinas (approximately 3-4 hours), passing through the beautiful Honduran countryside, with its mountains, valleys, coffee plantations, and traditional villages. Along the way, visit the beautiful city of Santa Bárbara and the surrounding area, or stop at a coffee plantation for a tour and tasting (Honduras is one of the largest coffee producers in Central America, and the coffee from the western highlands is considered some of the best in the world). Upon arrival in Copán Ruinas, a beautiful small town in western Honduras, near the border with Guatemala, the gateway to the famous Copán Maya ruins, with its charming colonial architecture, cobblestone streets, beautiful cafes, restaurants, and craft shops. Check into your hotel or boutique hotel. Explore Copán Ruinas: visit the Parque Central (the main square, with its beautiful fountain and the church), the Iglesia de San José (the main church, a beautiful colonial church), the various craft shops and galleries (selling beautiful Maya-inspired crafts, textiles, jewelry, and art), and the beautiful streets and plazas of the town. Visit the Copán Sculpture Museum (a beautiful museum housing the original sculptures and stelae from the Copán ruins, including the famous Altar Q and the various stelae, with detailed information about the Maya civilization and the history of Copán). After lunch, visit a nearby coffee plantation in the Copán region (the area around Copán is famous for its high-quality coffee, grown in the rich volcanic soil of the western highlands). Take a guided tour of the coffee plantation, learning about the coffee-growing process from planting to harvesting to processing to roasting, and enjoy a coffee tasting of the various single-origin coffees from the region. Visit the nearby village of San Jerónimo and the surrounding countryside, enjoying the beautiful mountain scenery and the traditional villages. Day 3: Copán Maya Ruins

Full day visiting the Copán Archaeological Park (one of the most important and beautiful Maya archaeological sites in the world, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the ancient capital of the Maya kingdom of Xukpi, famous for its incredibly detailed and beautiful stone carvings, stelae, altars, and the famous Hieroglyphic Stairway (the longest known Maya hieroglyphic text, with over 2,000 glyphs documenting the history of the Copán dynasty). Copán is often called the Paris of the Maya world because of its beautiful art and architecture, and it is considered one of the most culturally important Maya sites. Explore the ruins: visit the Great Plaza (the main plaza, with its beautiful stelae and altars, including the famous Stela A, Stela B, Stela C, Stela D, Stela E, Stela F, Stela H, Stela I, Stela J, Stela K, Stela M, Stela N, Stela P, and the various altars, with their detailed carvings of the kings and rulers of Copán), the Hieroglyphic Stairway (the famous staircase with its 2,000+ glyphs, the longest known Maya hieroglyphic text, documenting the history of the Copán dynasty from its founding to its decline), the Temple of the Inscriptions (the temple at the top of the Hieroglyphic Stairway, with its beautiful carvings), the Ball Court (one of the most beautiful ball courts in the Maya world, with its beautifully carved macaw markers and the beautiful stone rings), the Temple of the Sun (the temple dedicated to the sun god, with its beautiful carvings), the Temple of the Cross (the temple dedicated to the cross god, with its beautiful carvings), the Temple of the Foliated Cross (the temple dedicated to the foliated cross god, with its beautiful carvings), the Acropolis (the royal palace complex, with its beautiful courtyards, temples, and the famous Rosalila Temple (a beautifully preserved temple discovered inside the Acropolis, with its original red paint and beautiful carvings, now housed in the Sculpture Museum)), the Sepulturas Group (the residential area of the nobles, with its beautiful palaces and courtyards), and the various other temples, plazas, and structures. Day 4: Copán to La Esperanza (Intibucá Coffee Region)

Morning drive from Copán Ruinas to La Esperanza (approximately 2-3 hours), the capital of the Intibucá department, located in the beautiful western highlands of Honduras, at an altitude of 1,700 meters, in the heart of the Honduran coffee region. La Esperanza is a beautiful small town with its colonial architecture, cobblestone streets, beautiful churches, and the surrounding coffee plantations and mountains. The Intibucá region is famous for its high-quality coffee, grown in the rich volcanic soil of the western highlands, and it is considered one of the best coffee-growing regions in Honduras. Upon arrival, explore La Esperanza: visit the Parque Central (the main square, with its beautiful fountain and the church), the Catedral de La Esperanza (the main cathedral, a beautiful colonial church), the various colonial buildings and plazas, and the beautiful streets of the town. Visit the local market (a bustling market with its fresh produce, coffee, crafts, and local products). After lunch, visit a coffee plantation in the Intibucá region, taking a guided tour of the plantation, learning about the coffee-growing process from planting to harvesting to processing to roasting, and enjoying a coffee tasting of the various single-origin coffees from the region. Visit the nearby village of San Juan and the surrounding countryside, enjoying the beautiful mountain scenery and the traditional villages. Visit the nearby communities of the Lenca people (the indigenous people of western Honduras, with their unique culture, traditions, and crafts, including their beautiful pottery and textiles). Visit a Lenca village and meet the local people, learning about their culture and traditions. Evening dinner at a local restaurant in La Esperanza, with Honduran cuisine and locally grown coffee. Overnight in La Esperanza.

Day 5: La Esperanza to Roatán (Bay Islands)

Morning drive from La Esperanza to San Pedro Sula or La Ceiba (approximately 3-4 hours), the gateway to the Bay Islands. From La Ceiba, take the ferry to Roatán (approximately 1-1.5 hours), the largest of the Bay Islands of Honduras, located in the Caribbean Sea, famous for its beautiful beaches, crystal-clear waters, vibrant coral reefs, and excellent diving and snorkeling. Roatán is part of the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef System (the second-largest barrier reef in the world), and it is consistently ranked as one of the best diving and snorkeling destinations in the Caribbean. Upon arrival in Roatán, transfer to your hotel or resort on the beautiful West Bay Beach or West End. Explore Roatán: visit the West End (a vibrant village with its shops, restaurants, bars, and dive shops), the West Bay Beach (one of the most beautiful beaches in the Caribbean, with its powdery white sand, crystal-clear turquoise water, and beautiful coral reefs just offshore), the Carambola Botanical Gardens (a beautiful botanical garden with its collection of tropical plants, fruit trees, and wildlife, including parrots, monkeys, and iguanas), the Gumbalimba Park (a beautiful nature park with its monkeys, birds, iguanas, and beautiful gardens), and the various other beautiful spots around the island. The waters around Roatán are teeming with marine life including tropical fish, coral reefs, sea turtles, rays, sharks (including whale sharks in season), dolphins, and many other species. Visit the nearby Little French Key (a beautiful private island with its beautiful beaches, restaurants, and wildlife) or the nearby Cayos Cochinos (a group of small islands with beautiful beaches and pristine coral reefs, and a Garifuna village). Evening enjoy a beautiful sunset over the Caribbean Sea. Dinner with fresh Caribbean seafood and local cuisine. Overnight in Roatán.

Day 6: Roatán & Departure

Morning free for a final beach day, snorkeling, diving, or relaxation on the beautiful beaches of Roatán. Visit the West Bay Beach for a final swim and snorkel, or take a boat trip to the nearby reefs or islands. Do some last-minute shopping for Honduran products including coffee, crafts, textiles, and local products. Visit the West End or the craft shops for souvenirs. After lunch, transfer to the Roatán airport (Juan Manuel Gálvez International Airport) for your departure flight, or take the ferry back to La Ceiba and then drive to San Pedro Sula for your departure flight.
