Itinerary Highlights

Day 1: Arrival in Libreville & Pongara National Park

Arrive at Léon-Mba International Airport (Libreville, Gabon). Transfer to your hotel. Explore Libreville, the capital and largest city of Gabon, a vibrant coastal city with its beautiful beaches, French colonial architecture, and vibrant culture. Visit the National Museum of Gabon, the Libreville Market, the waterfront (Corniche), the Presidential Palace, and the beautiful beaches. After lunch, take a boat trip to Pongara National Park (located just across the Gabon Estuary from Libreville, a beautiful national park with its pristine rainforest, mangrove forests, savanna, and beautiful beaches, home to forest elephants, gorillas, chimpanzees, mandrills, buffaloes, hippos, and a huge variety of birds and marine life). Take a guided walk through the rainforest, looking for wildlife including elephants, monkeys, and birds. Visit the mangrove forests and the estuary, looking for hippos, crocodiles, manatees, and a variety of water birds. Visit the beautiful beaches of Pongara, where you can often see sea turtles nesting (season-dependent) and a variety of shorebirds. Visit the Pongara Lodge and the surrounding area. Evening return to Libreville. Welcome dinner with Gabonese cuisine including fresh seafood, plantains, manioc, and the famous Gabonese pepper soup. Overnight in Libreville.

Day 2: Libreville to Loango National Park

Morning fly from Libreville to Port-Gentil or directly to Loango National Park (approximately 1-1.5 hours). Upon arrival, transfer to your luxury safari lodge in Loango National Park, one of the most beautiful and pristine national parks in Africa, located on the Atlantic coast of Gabon, with its diverse ecosystems including pristine rainforest, savanna, lagoons, mangroves, and beautiful beaches. The park is famous for its incredible wildlife, including lowland gorillas, forest elephants, hippos (which surf in the ocean!), mandrills, chimpanzees, buffaloes, leopards, and a huge variety of birds and marine life. After lunch, take an afternoon game drive or a boat safari in the park, looking for wildlife. Visit the beautiful beaches of Loango, where you can often see elephants and hippos on the beach, a unique and unforgettable sight. Look for elephants, hippos, buffaloes, monkeys, and a variety of birds. Evening enjoy a beautiful sunset over the Atlantic Ocean. Dinner at the lodge. Overnight in Loango National Park.

Day 3: Loango – Gorilla Tracking & Beach Wildlife

Early morning gorilla tracking in Loango National Park. Hike through the pristine rainforest, following the tracks of a habituated group of western lowland gorillas, with your guide and trackers leading the way. When you find the gorilla group, spend one hour with them, observing their behavior, watching them feed, play, rest, and interact with each other. The experience of being in the presence of these magnificent animals in their natural habitat is truly awe-inspiring and unforgettable. After the gorilla tracking, return to the lodge for lunch and a rest. In the afternoon, take a game drive along the beach and the savanna areas of the park, looking for wildlife. Loango is famous for its beach wildlife, with forest elephants often coming to the beach to feed on the coastal vegetation and to socialize. You can often see elephants walking along the beach, playing in the surf, and feeding on the vegetation. Hippos also come to the beach and to the ocean, and you can often see them surfing in the waves. Visit the lagoons and the mangrove forests, looking for hippos, crocodiles, manatees, and a variety of water birds. Evening enjoy another beautiful sunset over the ocean. Dinner at the lodge. Overnight in Loango National Park.

Day 4: Loango to Lopé National Park

Morning take a final game drive or a walk through the rainforest in Loango, enjoying the last views of the park and its wildlife. After breakfast, fly or drive from Loango to Lopé National Park (approximately 1-2 hours flight or a combination of flight and drive), one of the most beautiful and diverse national parks in Gabon, located in the center of the country, with its unique landscape of rainforest and savanna (the park is located at the boundary between the rainforest and the savanna, creating a unique and diverse ecosystem). Lopé National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site (as part of the Ecosystem and Relict Cultural Landscape of Lopé-Okanda), and is home to an incredible diversity of wildlife including lowland gorillas, chimpanzees, forest elephants, mandrills, buffaloes, leopards, and a huge variety of birds. The park is also home to important archaeological sites, with evidence of human habitation dating back over 400,000 years. Upon arrival, transfer to your lodge or camp. After lunch, take a game drive through the park, exploring the savanna and the rainforest areas, looking for wildlife including elephants, buffaloes, monkeys, and a variety of birds. Visit the beautiful scenery of the park, with its rolling savanna hills, rainforest, and the Ogooué River. Visit the nearby archaeological sites, including the ancient rock engravings and the remains of ancient human settlements. Evening enjoy a beautiful sunset over the savanna. Dinner at the lodge. Overnight in Lopé National Park.

Day 5: Lopé to Ivindo National Park & to Libreville

Morning take a final game drive or a walk through Lopé National Park, enjoying the last views of the park and its wildlife. Look for gorillas, chimpanzees, elephants, mandrills, and a variety of birds. Visit the beautiful scenery of the park. After breakfast, fly or drive from Lopé to Ivindo National Park (approximately 1-1.5 hours flight), one of the most beautiful and pristine national parks in Gabon, located in the northeast of the country, with its pristine rainforest, rivers, and the famous Kongou Falls (one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Africa, a massive waterfall on the Ivindo River, with its stunning white water and beautiful rainforest setting). Ivindo National Park is home to an incredible diversity of wildlife including lowland gorillas, chimpanzees, forest elephants, mandrills, and a huge variety of birds. Visit the Kongou Falls, taking a boat ride along the Ivindo River to the falls, enjoying the beautiful rainforest scenery and the stunning waterfall. Look for wildlife along the river, including elephants, monkeys, and a variety of birds. Visit the Langoué Baï (a beautiful forest clearing in the park, where forest elephants come to gather and feed on the mineral-rich soil, one of the best places in Gabon to see forest elephants). Visit the surrounding rainforest, looking for gorillas, chimpanzees, mandrills, and a variety of birds. After lunch, fly from Ivindo back to Libreville (approximately 1.5-2 hours). Upon arrival in Libreville, transfer to your hotel. Evening farewell dinner with Gabonese cuisine, reflecting on the incredible wildlife and nature experiences of Gabon’s national parks. Overnight in Libreville.

Day 6: Libreville & Departure

Morning free for last-minute exploration of Libreville or shopping for Gabonese products including traditional crafts, carvings, masks, textiles, and local products. Visit the Libreville Market or the craft shops for souvenirs. Visit the National Museum of Gabon for a final look at the artifacts, or relax at a café overlooking the ocean. Visit the beautiful beaches of Libreville for a final swim or walk. After lunch, transfer to Léon-Mba International Airport for your departure flight.
