Itinerary Highlights
Day 1: Arrival in Paro & Acclimatization
Arrive at Paro International Airport. Transfer to your hotel. Explore Paro: visit the Paro Dzong, the National Museum, and the Kyichu Lhakhang. Rest and acclimatize to the altitude. Evening welcome dinner with Bhutanese cuisine. Overnight in Paro.
Day 2: Paro – Sharna Zampa (Trek Start, 2,800m)
Morning drive from Paro to Sharna Zampa (the starting point of the Jomolhari Trek, approximately 1 hour drive). Meet your trekking crew (guide, cook, horsemen, and yaks/horses for carrying luggage). Start the trek from Sharna Zampa, trekking along the Paro Chhu river through beautiful pine and oak forests, with stunning views of the valley. Trek for approximately 4-5 hours, arriving at the camp at Sharna Zampa or nearby. Enjoy the beautiful scenery and the peaceful atmosphere. Evening dinner at the camp. Overnight in tent camp.
Day 3: Sharna Zampa – Jangothang (3,640m)
Morning continue the trek from Sharna Zampa to Jangothang (Jomolhari Base Camp, at an altitude of 3,640 meters). Trek through beautiful forests and alpine meadows, with increasingly stunning views of Mount Jomolhari (7,326 meters) as you approach the base camp. Trek for approximately 5-6 hours, crossing streams and enjoying the beautiful alpine scenery. Arrive at Jangothang (Jomolhari Base Camp), with stunning views of Mount Jomolhari and the surrounding peaks. Explore the area and enjoy the breathtaking views. Evening dinner at the camp. Overnight in tent camp at Jomolhari Base Camp.
Day 4: Jangothang – Lingshi (4,000m, via Nyile La 4,890m)
Morning trek from Jangothang to Lingshi, crossing the Nyile La Pass (at an altitude of 4,890 meters, the highest point of the trek, with stunning panoramic views of the Himalayas including Mount Jomolhari, Mount Jichu Drake, and the surrounding peaks). The trek is challenging but rewarding, with breathtaking views from the pass. After crossing the pass, descend to Lingshi (at an altitude of 4,000 meters), a beautiful high-altitude valley with its stunning Lingshi Dzong (a beautiful fortress-monastery in a remote and stunning setting). Trek for approximately 7-8 hours. Visit the Lingshi Dzong and enjoy the beautiful scenery. Evening dinner at the camp. Overnight in tent camp at Lingshi.
Day 5: Lingshi – Shodu (3,800m, via Yeli La 4,800m)
Morning trek from Lingshi to Shodu, crossing the Yeli La Pass (at an altitude of 4,800 meters, with stunning views of the surrounding mountains and valleys). Trek through beautiful alpine meadows and high-altitude terrain, with stunning views of the Himalayas. After crossing the pass, descend to Shodu (at an altitude of 3,800 meters), a beautiful valley with its stunning scenery and its remote villages. Trek for approximately 6-7 hours. Enjoy the beautiful scenery and the peaceful atmosphere. Evening dinner at the camp. Overnight in tent camp at Shodu.
Day 6: Shodu – Barshong (3,000m)
Morning trek from Shodu to Barshong, descending through beautiful forests and valleys, with stunning views of the surrounding mountains. Trek through beautiful pine and oak forests, crossing streams and enjoying the beautiful scenery. Trek for approximately 5-6 hours, arriving at Barshong (at an altitude of 3,000 meters), a beautiful village with its stunning Barshong Dzong and its beautiful setting. Visit the Barshong Dzong and the village, and interact with the local people. Evening dinner at the camp or in a local guesthouse. Overnight in tent camp or guesthouse at Barshong.
Day 7: Barshong – Dolam Kencho (2,900m) & to Thimphu
Morning trek from Barshong to Dolam Kencho (the end point of the trek, at an altitude of 2,900 meters), trekking through beautiful forests and valleys. Trek for approximately 3-4 hours. Upon arrival at Dolam Kencho, meet your vehicle and drive to Thimphu (approximately 1 hour). Check into your hotel. Rest and relax after the trek. Explore Thimphu: visit the Tashichho Dzong, the Memorial Chorten, and the Buddha Dordenma. Evening dinner with Bhutanese cuisine. Overnight in Thimphu.
Day 8: Thimphu to Punakha & Punakha Dzong
Morning drive from Thimphu to Punakha (approximately 2-3 hours), over the Dochula Pass (3,140 meters, with stunning views of the Himalayas and 108 chortens). Visit the Punakha Dzong (one of the most beautiful dzongs in Bhutan). Visit the Chimi Lhakhang (the Fertility Temple). Evening dinner with Bhutanese cuisine. Overnight in Punakha.
Day 9: Punakha to Paro & Tiger’s Nest
Morning drive from Punakha back to Paro (approximately 2-3 hours). Afternoon hike to the Tiger’s Nest Monastery (Taktsang, one of the most sacred sites in Bhutan). The hike takes approximately 2-3 hours each way. Visit the monastery and enjoy the stunning views. Evening farewell dinner with Bhutanese cuisine. Overnight in Paro.
Day 10: Paro & Departure
Morning free for last-minute shopping. After breakfast, transfer to Paro International Airport for your departure flight. Concluding your 10-day Bhutan Jomolhari Base Camp trek.
