Itinerary Highlights

Day 1: Arrival in Andorra la Vella & Caldea Spa

Arrive in Andorra la Vella (by car from Barcelona or Toulouse, or by bus from nearby airports in Spain or France; Andorra does not have an airport). Andorra la Vella is the capital and largest city of Andorra, located at an altitude of 1,023 meters, making it the highest capital city in Europe. The city is nestled in a beautiful valley in the Pyrenees, surrounded by stunning mountain peaks, with the Valira River running through the center. Check into your hotel. Explore Andorra la Vella: visit the historic Old Town (Barri Antic), with its charming stone houses, narrow streets, and the historic Casa de la Vall (the historic house of the valleys, built in 1580, the former seat of the General Council of the Valleys), the Església de Sant Esteve (a beautiful Romanesque church dating back to the 12th century), the Plaça del Poble, the various bridges over the Valira River, and the various parks and gardens. Visit the Andorra National Museum (Museu Nacional d’Art d’Andorra), housed in the historic Casa de la Vall. Visit the nearby town of Escaldes-Engordany (adjacent to Andorra la Vella, famous for the Caldea spa and the duty-free shopping). After lunch, visit the Caldea spa (one of the largest and most luxurious thermal spas in Europe, a stunning glass pyramid building housing a variety of thermal pools, saunas, steam rooms, jacuzzis, and relaxation areas, with the thermal water rich in minerals and said to have healing properties). Spend the afternoon relaxing at the Caldea, enjoying the thermal pools, saunas, steam rooms, and the various treatments available. Evening enjoy dinner at one of the many excellent restaurants in Andorra la Vella or Escaldes-Engordany, with a variety of cuisines including Catalan, Spanish, French, and international. Andorra is famous for its excellent duty-free shopping, with a wide variety of products including electronics, perfume, cosmetics, alcohol, tobacco, clothing, and sports equipment, all at tax-free prices. Overnight in Andorra la Vella.

Day 2: Hiking in Madriu-Perafita-Claror Valley & Grandvalira

Morning visit the Madriu-Perafita-Claror Valley (a UNESCO World Heritage Site, a stunning glacial valley in the heart of Andorra, one of the most beautiful and unspoiled valleys in the Pyrenees, with its dramatic mountain peaks, lush green meadows, crystal-clear streams, beautiful forests, and the traditional stone cabins and shepherd huts that dot the landscape. The valley is a testament to the traditional pastoral way of life in the Pyrenees). Take a guided hike through the valley, enjoying the stunning scenery, the diverse flora and fauna (including Pyrenean chamois, marmots, eagles, and a variety of wildflowers), and the beautiful mountain landscapes. Hike to the Refugi de l’Illa (a beautiful mountain refuge in the valley, with stunning views of the surrounding peaks) or to the higher pastures for more panoramic views. After the hike, visit the nearby town of Encamp (a beautiful town in the Valira d’Orient valley, famous for the Funicamp cable car to the Grandvalira ski area, the National Automobile Museum, and the beautiful Sant Romà de les Bons church). Visit the National Automobile Museum in Encamp, with its impressive collection of over 80 vintage cars, 60 motorcycles, and 30 bicycles. After lunch, visit the Grandvalira ski area (the largest ski area in the Pyrenees, spanning the towns of Pas de la Casa, Grau Roig, El Tarter, and Canillo, with over 200 kilometers of ski slopes). Take the Funicamp cable car from Encamp to the Grandvalira area, enjoying the stunning views of the mountains and valleys. Visit the high-altitude resort of Pas de la Casa (at an altitude of 2,080 meters, the highest town in Andorra, located on the French border, famous for its duty-free shopping, ski slopes, and vibrant nightlife). Explore Pas de la Casa, visit the shops, and enjoy the stunning high-altitude scenery. Visit the nearby town of Canillo (a beautiful town in the Valira d’Orient valley, famous for the Sant Joan de Caselles church (a beautiful Romanesque church dating back to the 12th century), the Ice Palace, and the various ski lifts to the Grandvalira area). Visit the Sant Joan de Caselles church, one of the most beautiful Romanesque churches in Andorra, with its stunning architecture and beautiful frescoes. Evening return to Andorra la Vella. Dinner at a local restaurant, enjoying the mountain cuisine and local wines. Overnight in Andorra la Vella.

Day 3: Duty-Free Shopping & Departure

Morning enjoy the duty-free shopping that Andorra is famous for. Andorra is a tax haven, with no VAT on most products, making it a popular shopping destination for visitors from Spain and France. The main shopping areas are in Andorra la Vella (along the Avinguda Meritxell and the surrounding streets) and Escaldes-Engordany, with a wide variety of shops selling electronics, perfume, cosmetics, alcohol, tobacco, clothing, shoes, sports equipment, watches, jewelry, and more, all at tax-free prices. Visit the major department stores and shopping centers, including the Pyrénées department store, the Carrefour supermarket, and the various shopping centers.
