6-Night Guernsey Coastal Path Self-Guided: 39 Miles of Bays & Bunkers

Day 1: Arrive Guernsey — St. Peter Port

Arrive in Guernsey (by air from UK regional airports or ferry from Jersey/Poole/Portsmouth). Transfer to your accommodation in St. Peter Port, one of Europe’s most beautiful harbor towns. Collect your route notes, maps, and local tips. Evening walk through the cobbled lanes and along the harbor-front. Visit Castle Cornet at twilight when the flags are lowered. Overnight St. Peter Port.

Day 2: St. Peter Port to Fermain Bay — 6 miles / 10 km

A gentle opening stage climbing out of St. Peter Port through the Victorian Candie Gardens. The path passes Clarence Battery before descending through wooded valleys to Fermain Bay, a pebbly cove with one of the island’s best seafood cafés hemmed in by high cliffs. Continue to the hidden inlet of Marble Bay. Overnight near Fermain/St. Martin.

Day 3: Fermain to Icart Point — 8 miles / 13 km

The Renoir coast—the most beautiful stretch of Guernsey’s cliff path. Walk past Moulin Huet Bay, where the French Impressionist Pierre-Auguste Renoir painted 15 canvases in 1883, enchanted by the clarity of the light and the dramatic rock formations. Continue past Saints Bay and the tiny fishing harbor of Icart. Views across to the islands of Sark and Herm dominate the horizon. The path climbs to Icart Point for sweeping panoramas. Overnight near Icart/Forest.

Day 4: Icart to Pleinmont — 9 miles / 14 km

The wild south coast continues past Petit Bôt Bay and its 19th-century water mill. The path passes the distinctive Le Gouffre, a chasm where the sea foams between jagged rocks. WWII observation towers dot the cliffs, reminders of Guernsey’s five-year German occupation. Arrive at Pleinmont Point, the island’s south-western tip, with a restored German naval observation tower and views across to the Hanois Lighthouse. Overnight near Pleinmont/Torteval.

Day 5: Pleinmont to L’Erée — 7 miles / 11 km

The west coast unfolds with gentler terrain. Visit Fort Grey (the ‘cup and saucer’), a martello tower transformed into a shipwreck museum, perched on a rocky islet at Rocquaine Bay. Pass L’Erée Headland with its Neolithic dolmen. At low tide, walk across the causeway to Lihou Island, a nature reserve accessible only when the tide permits—home to seabird colonies and the ruins of a 12th-century priory. Overnight near L’Erée/St. Peter’s.

Day 6: L’Erée to Port Soif — 5 miles / 8 km

The most peaceful stretch. Walk past Vazon Bay, Guernsey’s surfing beach, backed by grass-covered dunes. Continue to Cobo Bay with its famous pink granite rock formations and panoramic views. The path passes Grandes Rocques, a sheltered sandy bay, before reaching Port Soif with its tidal pools and gentle waters. A short inland walk returns to St. Peter Port or you can arrange transport. Overnight St. Peter Port or depart.

Day 7: Departure

Morning at leisure for last-minute exploring. Transfer to Guernsey Airport or harbor for departure.
