5-Day Palau Paradise: Rock Islands, Jellyfish Lake & WWII History

Day 1: Arrive Koror — Palau Gateway

Arrive at Roman Tmetuchl International Airport on Babeldaob Island. Transfer to your hotel in Koror, Palau’s commercial center. Afternoon orientation tour: visit the Etpison Museum to understand Palauan history, traditional bai (meeting houses), and the famous storyboards carved with local legends. Walk the Japan-Palau Friendship Bridge. Sunset dinner at a waterfront restaurant. Overnight Koror.

Day 2: Rock Islands & Jellyfish Lake

Full-day boat excursion into the Rock Islands Southern Lagoon — a UNESCO World Heritage site of 445 limestone islands covered in emerald forest, surrounded by impossibly blue water. First stop: the legendary Jellyfish Lake — swim among millions of harmless golden jellyfish that have lost their sting through evolution. Continue to the Milky Way — a sheltered lagoon where you slather yourself in white limestone mud for a natural spa treatment. Picnic lunch on a pristine beach. Snorkel at the famous Big Drop-Off — a vertical wall plunging 300m with incredible coral and fish diversity. Visit the Clam City site where giant Tridacna clams up to 1.5m wide carpet the seafloor. Overnight Koror.

Day 3: Peleliu Island — WWII Battlefield

Speedboat 1.5 hours to Peleliu Island — site of one of the Pacific War’s bloodiest battles (September-November 1944). Peleliu is a designated U.S. National Historic Landmark where over 10,000 Japanese and 1,700 American soldiers perished. Walking tour of the battlefield: Bloody Nose Ridge, the 1,000-Man Cave (a vast Japanese tunnel complex), rusting tanks and artillery pieces, and the hauntingly beautiful US Memorial. The island’s abandoned airstrip is now a peaceful field of wildflowers. Visit the Peleliu WWII Museum. Afternoon snorkeling at Peleliu’s pristine coral gardens. Overnight Koror.

Day 4: Babeldaob — Ancient Monoliths & Nature

Full-day exploration of Babeldaob — Palau’s largest island. Visit the mysterious Badrulchau stone monoliths — Palau’s most enigmatic archaeological site with 37 basalt pillars arranged in two rows, possibly dating to 150 AD. Continue to Ngardmau Waterfall — Palau’s tallest cascade plunging through lush jungle. Hike down (and optionally take the monorail back up). Visit Melekeok — Palau’s capital — to see the striking Capitol building inspired by Washington DC’s design but with Palauan motifs. Afternoon at a traditional Bai (men’s meeting house) to learn about Palauan matrilineal society where women control land and clan affairs. Overnight Koror.

Day 5: Kayaking & Departure

Morning kayaking through the Rock Islands’ hidden channels and marine lakes — an intimate way to experience this UNESCO wonderland. Paddle through Nikko Bay’s emerald passages. Final snorkeling stop at soft coral gardens. Afternoon transfer to airport for departure.
