Itinerary Highlights

Day 1: Arrival in Muscat

Arrive at Muscat International Airport. Transfer to your hotel. Explore Muscat, the beautiful capital of Oman, known for its white-washed buildings, stunning mosques, and natural harbor. Visit the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque (one of the largest mosques in the world, with a stunning Persian carpet, the second-largest hand-woven carpet in the world, and a beautiful chandelier), the Royal Opera House Muscat, the Al Alam Palace (the Sultan’s ceremonial palace, with its stunning blue and gold facade), the Mutrah Fort, and the Mutrah Corniche (a beautiful waterfront promenade). Visit the Mutrah Souq (one of the oldest markets in the Middle East, with frankincense, spices, perfumes, jewelry, and traditional Omani crafts). Evening welcome dinner with Omani cuisine including shuwa (slow-cooked lamb), machboos (spiced rice with meat), and Omani halwa (sweet dessert). Overnight in Muscat.

Day 2: Muscat to Nizwa & Jebel Akhdar

Morning drive to Nizwa (approximately 1.5 hours), the former capital of Oman and one of the oldest cities in the country. Visit the Nizwa Fort (a massive 17th-century fort, one of the most impressive in Oman, with its massive round tower, underground tunnels, and beautiful views), the Nizwa Souq (famous for its silver jewelry, pottery, and the traditional Friday goat market), and the Nizwa Mosque. After lunch, drive to Jebel Akhdar (the Green Mountain, part of the Al Hajar mountain range, reaching over 2,000 meters). Visit the Saiq Plateau, the Rose Gardens (famous for their Damask roses, used to make rose water), the traditional mountain villages of Al Ayn and Birkat al Mawz, and the ancient falaj (traditional irrigation system) systems. Enjoy the stunning views of the mountain terraces, date palms, and fruit orchards. Overnight in Jebel Akhdar or Nizwa.

Day 3: Jebel Akhdar to Wahiba Sands

Morning continue exploring Jebel Akhdar: hike through the beautiful mountain terraces, visit the Wadi Ghul (the Grand Canyon of Oman, a spectacular canyon with stunning views), and the Jebel Shams (the highest mountain in Oman, at 3,009 meters, with stunning views from the summit). After lunch, drive to the Wahiba Sands (also known as the Sharqiya Sands), a vast desert of golden sand dunes, some reaching over 100 meters high. Arrive at your desert camp. Enjoy a camel ride through the dunes, try sandboarding, and watch the spectacular sunset over the desert. Evening enjoy a traditional Omani dinner under the stars, with Bedouin-style entertainment including traditional music and dancing. Sleep in a traditional Bedouin tent or a luxury desert camp. Overnight in Wahiba Sands.

Day 4: Wahiba Sands to Wadi Shab & Muscat

Early morning watch the sunrise over the desert dunes. After breakfast, drive to Wadi Shab (approximately 1.5 hours), one of the most beautiful wadis (dry river valleys) in Oman, with its crystal-clear turquoise pools, lush palm groves, and towering cliffs. Hike through the wadi, swim in the refreshing pools, and visit the hidden cave with a waterfall inside (requires swimming through a narrow passage). After lunch, visit the nearby Bimmah Sinkhole (a beautiful natural sinkhole with turquoise water, formed by the collapse of a limestone cave). Visit the coastal town of Sur (famous for its traditional dhow-building industry, where you can see wooden dhows being built by hand). Visit the Ras al Hadd Turtle Reserve (where you can see green turtles nesting on the beach, season-dependent). Evening return to Muscat. Overnight in Muscat.

Day 5: Muscat Final Day & Departure

Morning free for last-minute exploration of Muscat or shopping for Omani products including frankincense, Omani perfumes (attar), silver jewelry, traditional khanjar (dagger), and Omani halwa. Visit the National Museum of Oman (a modern museum documenting the history and culture of Oman) or the Oman Across Ages Museum. Optional: visit the Al Bustan Palace Beach or take a dhow cruise along the Muscat coastline. After lunch, transfer to Muscat International Airport for your departure flight, concluding your 5-day Oman highlights express tour.
