Itinerary Highlights

Day 1: Arrival in Mbabane & Ezulwini Valley

Arrive at King Mswati III International Airport (Manzini, Eswatini), or cross the border from South Africa. Transfer to your hotel in Mbabane (the capital and largest city of Eswatini, located in the beautiful Ezulwini Valley at an altitude of 1,200 meters, surrounded by the Mdimba Mountains). Explore Mbabane: visit the Mbabane Market (a bustling market with its fresh produce, crafts, and local products), the Swazi Plaza (the main shopping center), the All Saints Cathedral, and the beautiful views of the surrounding mountains. Visit the nearby Ezulwini Valley (the Royal Valley of Eswatini, the spiritual and cultural heart of the kingdom, where the royal palaces, the national stadium, and the most important cultural sites are located). Visit Lobamba (the royal and legislative capital of Eswatini, where the King’s royal palace (Ludzidzini Royal Palace) is located, and the Parliament building). Visit the National Museum of Eswatini (with its exhibits on Swazi history, culture, and natural heritage, and the famous collection of Swazi artifacts including the King’s regalia). Visit the King Sobhuza II Memorial Park (commemorating King Sobhuza II, who ruled Eswatini for 82 years, the longest-reigning monarch in recorded history). Evening welcome dinner with Swazi cuisine including pap (cornmeal porridge), meat stews, moroho (spinach), emasi (sour milk), and fresh tropical fruits. Overnight in Mbabane/Ezulwini Valley.

Day 2: Wildlife & Swazi Culture

Morning visit the Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary (Eswatini’s oldest protected area, a beautiful sanctuary in the Ezulwini Valley, with its diverse wildlife including zebras, wildebeest, giraffes, impalas, nyalas, kudus, warthogs, crocodiles, hippos, and over 200 species of birds). Take a guided game drive or a horseback safari through the sanctuary, enjoying the beautiful scenery and the abundant wildlife. Visit the sanctuary’s rehabilitation center for injured and orphaned animals. After the wildlife visit, go to the Swazi Cultural Village (a traditional Swazi village at the Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary, where you can experience the traditional Swazi culture and way of life). Take a guided tour of the village, visiting the traditional huts (including the King’s hut, the Queen Mother’s hut, the warrior’s hut, and the sangoma (traditional healer) hut), learning about the traditional Swazi social structure, customs, and traditions. Watch a traditional Swazi dance performance (including the famous Sibhaca dance, a high-energy men’s dance with vigorous kicking and stomping, and the women’s dance with their beautiful singing and clapping). Learn about the traditional crafts including beadwork, weaving, pottery, and wood carving. After lunch, visit the Ngwenya Glass Factory (the oldest glass factory in Africa, located near the Ngwenya border crossing with South Africa, where skilled artisans hand-make beautiful glass products from recycled glass, using traditional techniques). Watch the artisans at work and visit the showroom to purchase beautiful glass products. Visit the Ngwenya Iron Ore Mine (the oldest known iron ore mine in the world, dating back over 40,000 years, where the ancient San people mined iron ore for red ochre). After the cultural visits, drive to the Hlane Royal National Park (the largest protected area in Eswatini, in the lowveld region of the country, a beautiful savanna park with its diverse wildlife including the Big Five (lions, leopards, elephants, rhinos, and buffalo), as well as giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, impalas, and many species of birds). Take an afternoon game drive through the park, looking for the Big Five and other wildlife. Evening enjoy a traditional Swazi dinner and a boma (bush barbecue) experience under the stars. Overnight at Hlane Royal National Park or return to Mbabane.

Day 3: Scenic Mountains & Departure

Morning explore the beautiful mountain scenery of Eswatini’s highveld. Visit the Malolotja Nature Reserve (a beautiful nature reserve in the northwestern part of Eswatini, with its stunning mountain scenery, waterfalls, forests, and diverse wildlife including elands, zebras, wildebeest, and many species of birds, and the famous Malolotja Falls). Take a hike through the reserve, enjoying the beautiful scenery and the diverse flora and fauna. Visit the nearby town of Piggs Peak (a beautiful town in the highveld of Eswatini, named after an early settler, with its beautiful mountain scenery and the nearby Phophonyane Falls). Visit the Phophonyane Falls (a beautiful waterfall in the highveld, with its stunning scenery and the nearby nature reserve). After lunch, visit the Mantenga Falls and the Mantenga Cultural Village (another beautiful cultural site near the Ezulwini Valley, with its beautiful waterfall and traditional Swazi village). Visit the traditional Swazi village and watch another cultural performance if desired. Do some last-minute shopping for Swazi products including Swazi candles (beautiful hand-made candles with intricate designs, a specialty of Eswatini), beadwork, traditional crafts, Ngwenya glass, and local products. Visit the Mbabane Market or the craft markets for souvenirs. Transfer to King Mswati III International Airport or the border crossing with South Africa for your departure.
