Day 2: Sete Cidades by Jeep & Kayak
Off-road jeep adventure to Sete Cidades crater. Navigate dirt tracks to hidden viewpoints inaccessible to regular vehicles. Descend to the crater lakes and launch kayaks onto the tranquil waters of Lagoa Azul — paddling inside a volcanic crater is surreal. Afternoon: bike ride along the crater rim, stopping at Vista do Rei viewpoint where the blue and green lakes create the Azores’ most photographed scene. Overnight in Ponta Delgada.
Day 3: Furnas Mountain Biking
Drive to Furnas for a mountain biking adventure through the geothermal valley. Ride past steaming fumaroles and bubbling caldeiras on forest trails. Stop at the Pico do Ferro viewpoint for a bird’s-eye view of the entire Furnas crater. Visit the hot springs at Poça da Dona Beija to soak in iron-rich thermal waters surrounded by tropical vegetation. Lunch: cozido das Furnas, the famous volcanic stew. Overnight in Ponta Delgada.
Day 4: Whale Watching & Coastal Hike
Morning whale watching expedition with marine biologists. The Azores are a global cetacean hotspot — look for sperm whales, sei whales, spotted dolphins, and if lucky, the mighty blue whale. Afternoon coastal hike from Ponta Delgada to São Roque, following black basalt cliffs with views of the islet of Rosto de Cão. Overnight in Ponta Delgada.
Day 5: Lagoa do Fogo Hike & Canyoning
Hike the trail from the south coast up to Lagoa do Fogo through dense endemic vegetation. The climb rewards with a pristine crater lake at 575m — one of the most untouched lakes in the Azores with no development on its shores. Afternoon: introductory canyoning in the Ribeira dos Caldeirões, descending waterfalls and natural pools in an untouched gorge. Overnight in Ponta Delgada.
Day 6: Nordeste by Bike & Seafood Feast
Final bike tour: drive to Nordeste for a scenic coastal ride past the island’s most dramatic cliffs. Stop at the Priolo Environmental Center to learn about the Azores bullfinch, one of Europe’s rarest birds found only here. Afternoon: visit a local fishing port for a seafood cooking class — learn to prepare lapas grelhadas (grilled limpets with garlic butter), caldo de peixe (fish soup), and fresh tuna steak. Farewell dinner with your adventure team. Overnight in Ponta Delgada.
Day 7: Depart Ponta Delgada
Transfer to airport.
