Day 1: Caracas to Orinoco Delta — First Encounters

Depart Caracas early morning for the flight east to Maturin, the gateway city to the Orinoco Delta. Upon arrival, transfer by 4×4 vehicle for approximately 2 hours through a landscape transitioning from savannah to dense tropical forest. At the river port, board a traditional Warao dugout canoe (bongo) and begin your journey into the delta’s labyrinth of waterways. Almost immediately, the wildlife viewing begins — herons, egrets, and kingfishers line the riverbanks, while howler monkeys announce their territory with deep, resonant calls that carry for kilometers through the forest. Day 4: Sunrise Birdwatching & Return to Caracas

With over 400 bird species recorded in the delta, dedicated birdwatchers can expect to see dozens of species in a single morning: scarlet ibis flying in crimson flocks, magnificent frigatebirds soaring overhead, ringed kingfishers diving for fish, and perhaps the rare harpy eagle, the largest eagle in the Americas.
