Best Time to Visit
March-May and September-November. April-May for azaleas in bloom, October-November for autumn colors and clearest skies. Avoid summer rain and winter ice (though snowy Huangshan is magical). Chinese holidays are extremely crowded.
Travel Tips
- Book mountain-top hotels at least 2 weeks in advance — Beitai or Xihai are best
- Take the Yungu cable car up and hike down the Western Steps for the best circuit
- Bring warm layers — even in summer it can be cold at the summit at sunrise
