Itinerary Highlights

Day 1: Arrive Bonaire — Eco-Lodge Welcome

Arrive and transfer to your eco-lodge in the countryside. Welcome fresh coconut water. Sunset birdwatching from the lodge’s observation deck — Bonaire is home to over 210 bird species. Dinner featuring local ingredients. Overnight at eco-lodge.

Day 2: Flamingo Sanctuary & Salt Flats

Dawn visit to the Pekelmeer Flamingo Sanctuary in the south — one of only four breeding sites for Caribbean flamingos in the world. Watch thousands of pink birds feeding in the salt pans as the sun rises. Continue to the Cargill Salt Mountains — massive white salt pyramids that look like snow-capped mountains in the Caribbean heat. Visit the Slave Huts at White Pan and Red Pan (1850) — tiny stone huts where enslaved salt workers slept, a powerful reminder of Bonaire’s history. Afternoon: visit the Mangrove Information Center and take a glass-bottom kayak tour. Overnight at eco-lodge.

Day 3: Washington Slagbaai National Park

Full-day wildlife safari through Washington Slagbaai National Park. Spot green iguanas, whiptail lizards, and wild goats among the candelabra cacti. Visit the blowholes and Boca Slagbaai. Birdwatching for yellow-shouldered Amazon parrots (Bonaire’s endemic subspecies), Caribbean parakeets, and brown-throated parakeets. Snorkel at Wayaka. Picnic lunch under a palapa. Overnight at eco-lodge.

Day 4: Klein Bonaire & Marine Life

Morning water taxi to Klein Bonaire. Snorkel among pristine coral gardens — Bonaire has the healthiest coral in the Caribbean with 57 species of coral. Look for the protected hawksbill and green sea turtles. Beach picnic on the uninhabited island. Afternoon: visit the Sea Turtle Conservation Bonaire center to learn about their tracking and protection programs. Overnight at eco-lodge.

Day 5: Goto Lake & Rincon Heritage

Morning at Goto Lake, Bonaire’s largest inland body of water and a prime flamingo viewing spot where hundreds gather to feed. Birdwatching for herons, ospreys, and frigate birds. Afternoon in Rincon: tour the Cadushy Distillery, visit the Mangazina di Rei cultural park, and learn about Bonaire’s musical heritage at a local workshop. Farewell dinner at a traditional Bonairean restaurant. Overnight at eco-lodge.
