Evening: Republic Square’s dancing fountains and the Kond district’s hidden alleyways. Overnight in Yerevan.

Day 3: Khor Virap, Areni Wine & Noravank

Khor Virap Monastery at dawn — Mount Ararat’s twin peaks (5,137m) loom directly behind the bell tower in the definitive image of Armenia. Winery visit in Areni — the Areni-1 cave nearby yielded the world’s oldest known winery (6,100 years old) and the world’s oldest leather shoe (5,500 years). Noravank Monastery (13th century) sits in a dramatic red-rock canyon. Overnight in Yerevan.

Day 4: Garni & Geghard

Garni Temple, the Greco-Roman temple from the 1st century AD — 24 Ionic columns on a cliff above the Azat River gorge. Geghard Monastery (UNESCO), carved into the mountain — the extraordinary acoustics of the rock-cut chambers invite impromptu singing. Overnight in Yerevan.

Day 5: Lake Sevan & Dilijan

Lake Sevan (1,900m), the “jewel of Armenia.” Sevanavank Monastery on the peninsula. Noratus Cemetery’s 900 medieval khachkars. Dilijan, the forested “Armenian Switzerland” — walk Sharambeyan Street’s restored 19th-century artisan workshops. Overnight in Dilijan.

Day 6: Debed Canyon Monasteries

Haghpat and Sanahin Monasteries (UNESCO) — 10th-century masterpieces of Armenian medieval architecture. The Sanahin gavit’s star-vaulted ceiling is an engineering marvel. Mikoyan Museum (the brothers who designed the MiG fighter jets were from this village). Overnight in Alaverdi.

Day 7: Cross into Georgia — Tbilisi

Border crossing to Georgia. Afternoon: explore Tbilisi — Narikala Fortress by cable car, the Abanotubani sulfur baths district (the source of the city’s name, from “tbili” = warm), and the Old Town’s winding streets with their distinctive wooden balconies. Overnight in Tbilisi.

Day 8: Tbilisi Deep Dive

National Museum’s Colchian gold. Rustaveli Avenue, Freedom Square, Bridge of Peace, Dry Bridge flea market. Chronicle of Georgia monument — 16 colossal pillars telling Georgia’s history. Evening: traditional Georgian supra feast with tamada (toastmaster), khinkali, and polyphonic singing. Overnight in Tbilisi.

Day 10: Georgian Military Highway — Kazbegi

The great mountain drive. Anaurin Fortress on the Zhinvali Reservoir. The Russia-Georgia Friendship Monument. Mount Kazbek (5,047m). Hike to Gergeti Trinity Church — the Caucasus’s most photographed sight. Overnight in Kazbegi.
