Day 1: Arrive Seiyun — Gateway to Hadramaut

Fly from Cairo to Seiyun, a historic city in Yemen’s Hadramaut region. Visit the impressive Seiyun Palace — the Sultan’s former residence, now a museum. Evening walk through the old souk where frankincense, myrrh, and traditional silver jewelry are traded as they have been for millennia. Overnight in Seiyun.

Day 2: Shibam — Manhattan of the Desert

Full day in Shibam, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the most extraordinary architectural achievements in human history. This 1,700-year-old walled city contains over 500 mud-brick tower houses, some rising 11 stories — the world’s oldest skyscrapers, built entirely of sun-dried mud bricks. Walk through the narrow alleys between the towers, visit a traditional home to see how families have lived vertically for centuries, and climb to a rooftop for the iconic panorama of mud towers against the desert sky. Overnight in Shibam.

Day 3: Wadi Doan — Yemen’s Grand Canyon

Drive through the spectacular Wadi Doan (Doan Valley), one of Arabia’s most dramatic landscapes. The wadi cuts through the Hadramaut plateau creating a vast canyon filled with date palm groves and ancient villages. Visit Al-Hajjarain, a village built into the cliff face. Visit Saif village and see the traditional beekeeping — Yemeni honey is considered among the world’s finest. Evening arrival at Al-Mukalla on the Arabian Sea coast. Overnight Al-Mukalla.

Day 4: Tarim — City of Mosques

Visit Tarim, historically one of the most important centers of Islamic learning in the world. The city boasts 365 mosques — one for every day of the year. Marvel at the Al-Muhdhar Mosque and its 53-meter-high mud-brick minaret, recognized by some as the tallest mud structure in the world. Visit the Rubat Tarim, an Islamic seminary that has educated scholars from across the Muslim world for centuries. The city’s libraries contain priceless manuscripts. Overnight Seiyun.

Day 5: Prophet Hud’s Tomb & Desert Landscapes

Journey to the tomb of Prophet Hud (Nabi Allah Hud), one of Yemen’s most sacred sites, located in a dramatic desert canyon east of Tarim. The white-domed shrine is a pilgrimage site that draws tens of thousands during the annual visitation. The journey crosses harsh desert terrain revealing the raw beauty of the Empty Quarter’s edge. Afternoon visit to the colorful Beit Buqshan palace, a stunning example of traditional Hadrami mud-brick architecture with intricately painted interiors. Overnight Seiyun.

Day 6: Al-Mukalla Coast & Hawf

Explore Al-Mukalla’s old port, historic buildings, and the Sultan’s Palace. Drive east along the Yemeni coast towards Hawf, passing fishing villages where traditional dhows are still built by hand. The Hawf region is unexpectedly green — a strip of coastal forest sustained by monsoon mists, with frankincense trees growing wild. Overnight near the Oman border.

Day 7: Cross to Oman — Salalah & Departure

Cross into Oman at the Sarfait border post. Drive through the Dhofar Mountains to Salalah, the legendary frankincense capital. Afternoon at leisure before departure flight. The contrast between Yemen’s ancient mud architecture and Oman’s modern prosperity provides a fitting end to this extraordinary journey.
