Itinerary Highlights
Day 1: Arrive Asuncion
Welcome to the “Mother of Cities” — Asuncion, founded 1537. Transfer to hotel. Afternoon orientation walk: Costanera, Government Palace illuminated at night. Dinner featuring traditional chipa and sopa paraguaya. Overnight in Asuncion.
Day 2: Asuncion — Culture & History
Morning visit to the Museo del Barro, Paraguay’s finest museum showcasing indigenous and contemporary art. Explore the historic center: National Pantheon, Cathedral, the Cabildo building. Lunch at Mercado 4 for authentic street food. Afternoon visit to the Botanical Garden and the Lopez Presidential Palace.
Day 3: Jesuit Missions — Trinidad & Jesus
Drive south through rural Paraguay to the UNESCO Jesuit Missions of La Santisima Trinidad de Parana and Jesus de Tavarangue. These magnificent 17th-century ruins showcase the unique encounter between European Jesuits and Guarani people. The intricate stone carvings and the sheer scale of these mission complexes are breathtaking. Overnight in Encarnacion.
Day 4: Yacyreta Dam & San Cosme
Visit the San Cosme y Damian mission, then tour the Yacyreta hydroelectric complex. Afternoon at Encarnacion’s beautiful riverfront. Drive to Ciudad del Este through the lush Paraguayan countryside. Overnight in Ciudad del Este.
Day 5: Iguazu Falls — Both Sides
An epic day visiting both the Brazilian and Argentine sides of Iguazu Falls. Morning: panoramic views from Brazil, including the walkway into Devil’s Throat. Afternoon: intimate upper and lower trails on the Argentine side. The sheer power of these 275 waterfalls is an experience that stays with you forever.
Day 6: Monday Falls & Depart
Morning at Saltos del Monday, Paraguay’s own stunning waterfalls. Visit a local artisan workshop for nanduti lace. Transfer to airport or bus to Foz do Iguacu for connections.
