Itinerary
Day 1: Arrive Ayers Rock – Sunset at Uluru
- Arrive at Ayers Rock Airport (AYQ); transfer to Ayers Rock Resort in Yulara — the only accommodation servicing Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park
- Afternoon visit to the Uluru-Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre: learn about Anangu culture, Tjukurpa (Aboriginal law and creation stories), and the significance of this living cultural landscape to the traditional owners
- Explore the Maruku Arts gallery for authentic dot paintings, punu (wood carvings), and the opportunity to meet Anangu artists
- Drive to the Uluru sunset viewing area for the world-famous colour transformation: watch Uluru glow from ochre brown to deep red to violet as the sun sets behind you — the rock changes colour due to iron minerals in the arkose sandstone and the angle of light
- Enjoy sparkling wine and canapés as the southern stars begin to appear in one of the darkest skies on Earth

Day 2: Uluru Base Walk & Kata Tjuta – The Olgas
- Early sunrise at Uluru: watch the first rays of light ignite the monolith in brilliant red and orange from the dedicated sunrise viewing platform at Talinguru Nyakunytjaku with 360° views
- Guided walk along the Uluru Base Walk (10.6 km full loop or choose shorter 2–4 km sections): walk at the foot of the 348-metre monolith, touch its surface, and learn about the rock art sites — some over 10,000 years old
- Visit Mutitjulu Waterhole, a permanent desert waterhole at the base of Uluru, surrounded by rock art telling the story of Kuniya (the woma python woman) and Liru (the venomous snake man)
- See the wave-like formations on Uluru’s northern face and the “brain” rock formations caused by chemical weathering
- Learn why the Anangu ask visitors not to climb Uluru: the path follows the traditional route taken by the ancestral Mala men and is deeply sacred; the climb was permanently closed in October 2019
- Afternoon drive to Kata Tjuta (The Olgas) — 36 conglomerate rock domes covering 21 sq km, geologically distinct from Uluru

Day 3: Kings Canyon – Rim Walk & Garden of Eden
- Early morning departure for Kings Canyon in Watarrka National Park (3.5 hrs drive through red desert country)
- Arrive at Kings Canyon; choose between two walks:
- Rim Walk (6 km, 3–4 hrs): Climb 500 steps to the rim of the canyon — the steep start is rewarded with breathtaking views of the 270-metre-deep gorge. Walk along the rim past the “Lost City” — a series of beehive-shaped sandstone domes resembling ancient ruins
- Creek Walk (1 km, easy): A leisurely stroll along the canyon floor between towering red walls with interpretive signs explaining the geology and ecology
- Descend into the Garden of Eden — a permanent waterhole surrounded by ancient cycads and ferns, a lush oasis in the heart of the desert that supported Aboriginal people for over 20,000 years
- Walk the South Wall section looking down into the sheer gorge and across the endless desert plains beyond
- Afternoon drive to Alice Springs (3.5 hrs) along the Mereenie Loop Road (4WD) or Stuart Highway, passing through spectacular desert landscapes
- Arrive in Alice Springs — the unofficial capital of the Australian outback, set between the MacDonnell Ranges
- Overnight: Alice Springs (3.5-star, town centre)
Day 4: Alice Springs – Desert Wildlife & Departure
- Morning visit to the Alice Springs Desert Park: walk through three desert habitats (Desert Rivers, Sand Country, Woodland) with native animals in natural settings — see bilbies, echidnas, dingoes, perenties (Australia’s largest monitor lizard), and the thorny devil
- Watch the free-flying bird show: wedge-tailed eagles, kites, and owls swooping overhead against the backdrop of the MacDonnell Ranges
- Visit the Nocturnal House to see animals rarely spotted in the wild: mala (rufous hare-wallaby), spinifex hopping mice, and ghost bats
- Visit the Alice Springs Telegraph Station, the original settlement that founded Alice Springs in 1872 on the Overland Telegraph Line connecting Adelaide to Darwin
- Explore the School of the Air visitor centre to learn how children in remote outback stations have been educated via radio (and now internet) since 1951 — a uniquely Australian institution
- Optional visit to Anzac Hill lookout for a final panoramic view of the town and the MacDonnell Ranges stretching east and west
